We have someone specializing in preparing this material and also I am running off some tapes in the background while I work. It is a long process to go through this stuff but a lot of fun because there are some real gems! It looks like April/May time perhaps that this will be available.

Good, my credit card will have time to recover - in the last two months I got Philharmonik, Imposcar, DimPro, a MicroKontrol and just ordered Rapture (don'tcha just love income tax refund checks?!)Squids wrote:It looks like April/May time perhaps that this will be available.
Btw, Rapture, although much different from DimPro, also uses the sfz format.

This should make some nice extra content for Rapture and Dimension.

This is great news! I used v1's Chamberlin cello, Mellotron vibes, and JB's harmonium on my new record (also used Rhodes & Wurly sounds from the Piano Collection too). I'll definitely be in for V2.
For rare weird instruments - how about something like a portative organ? I should just read the liner notes from Jon Brion and Mitchell Froom productions and list all the weird keyboards we'll never come across in real life!

Some of the ones in their liner notes could have even been mine. Jon and I at least traded keys a bunch of times and I stored a couple of my keyboards at Mitchell's studio for a while (well, Neil Finn stored them there and Mitchell made me pick them up after a while... a Chamberlin Music Master takes up some space! You can see one in the Fiona Apple Shadow Boxer video).SometimesNothing wrote: I should just read the liner notes from Jon Brion and Mitchell Froom productions and list all the weird keyboards we'll never come across in real life!
Portative organ would be cool. Don't have one. Tentative organ. I do have Jon Brion's Rheem Keebass sampled though (because it used to be mine). That'll be on V2 as well as a bunch of rare string keyboards too. Oh, it's gonna be good! Don't worry!!!

I know I came late to the Jellyfish party...
God...what a band! I'm working on a cover of "Calling Sarah", from Bellybutton, which will be nowhere near as good as the orginal, but I can't help myself! (though I've been "working on it" forever). Anyway, I'll give a link when it's done (assuming that the JF guys would be okay with that). I am using primarily SS2 for the sounds.
Bummer that they can no longer work together. I like the solo stuff I've heard (Jason and the few leaked things of Andy's), and things like Imperial Drag, but nothing compares to the original - like McCartney and Lennon, only the combo produced the REAL result. The whole is more than the sum of its parts, if you will.
Anyway - carry on with the Tron conversations...

Roger Manning has a new solo album out though. Somewhat Jellyfishish.
Btw, samples of Kevin's Novatron are on Squids Tron Vol. 1 & 2. FWIW.

C'mon Squids - gotta get yourself a mini pipe organ!Squids wrote:Portative organ would be cool. Don't have one.
On Michael Penn's latest, "Mr. Hollywood Jr., 1947" he uses a Melochord and a Sikhotatron. I managed to find out what a Melochord is, but not the Sikhotatron. Any ideas?
He's also got a pic on the back cover of some strange piano which has 5 pedals(!?) that are labeled: mandolin, orchestra, expression, soft, forte. Ever run across one of those?
How about a marxaphone sample?

No, but that all sounds like really cool funky weird stuff! I haven't talked to Patrick in a while. But, I can ask him. He loves to talk about strange toys. I don't know if he is still working with Michael though or not. Maybe not.

Patrick plays on some of Michael's album, but he wasn't the only keyboard player involved. My guess is that he's got a lot of other session work, so Michael had to get some other people on keys (he plays a bunch himself too). Patrick is working a lot with Joe Henry on various projects. I think he's still playing with Sam Phillips too.

Meffy's Musical Trivia Time: "Negative" isn't the only word that's opposite to "positive." That excellent word up there is another. (Positive organs are the kind that stay put in one place... or position.)SometimesNothing wrote:portative
