I did further tweaking with the AA reverb and really believe that RoomVerb M2 by Spin Audio is as good. A little darker/fuller sound, but that difference may just mean that I need to tweak a bit more. I'd like to try a CSR demo, but in the meantime I'm not going to purchase any more VST's. I've ordered a Kurzweil Rumour and will be looking for another hardware unit. I'll consider Altiverb when it comes out. I think Roomverb is a great value.

What do you mean here? Is Altiverb being ported to PC?

Plans are in the works. They have a lot ($$) to gain on this. I emailed them and they said that it is in the works for PC in the future--couldn't give me a specific time range.

I am not sure that there will ever be a demo for CSR.

Not to hijack, but I agree Kmonkey - right now AA is the only one i'd consider buying.
I'd like to play with a demo of CSR (non-dongle only, if possible) - but it would have to be fewkin amazing & actually trash AA to justify the 140 euro higher price tag.
That is before taking into account my attitude on dongles.

I am very happy with the Arts Acoustic Reverb. It has a beautiful and pleasing sound, is surprisingly flexible, integrates well in a wide variety of musical situations and is decent on the cpu. I particularly like how it sounds at more subtle settings. I am by no means a high-end reverb expert, but I have tried all the vst reverbs and while I might like some aspect of this one or that one, the AA reverb seems clearly the best vst algo reverb.

Add in that it allows use on multiple machines making it a great deal. Some other reverbs you will have to buy a license for each machine. Also add in that it has no dongle and for me the choice was crystal clear. I am interested in new reverbs if someone clearly surpasses the AAR, so I look forward to examples and discussion of the CSR

Another thing to consider is that other types of h/w are not thoroughly captured by impulse responses either. For instance, tube coloration that happens dynamically (i.e. "warmth" created by dynamic harmonic coloration) can't be recreated by static impulses, though I've heard there is such a thing as dynamic convolution.

Isn't that what TriTone Digital's stuff does?

Supposedly, but this resulted in a long, slightly heated thread some months back which involved several developers. It was staunchly maintained by some (Torben Larsen among them) that "warmth" could not come from IR's and that TriTone must be achieving their overall sound some other way (an algo/convo hybrid, I guess). I couldn't really grock it either, since I'm no technical expert, but I do use '62 Valvetone and it certainly sounds "warm" to me, so I'm not sure what to make of that. I gave up on the thread as it was getting tedious, so I don't know if TriTone ever explained.

Oh god, I certainly don't want to start anything with that! Yeah, I remember that thread somewhat. I'm no expert either, so they can use whatever method they want, AFAIC. I do prefer algo reverbs myself, even if in just a purely subjective way. It's another one of those I-shouldn't-think-about-it-too-much-or-I'll-forget-to-make-music type things, I figure. And my wallet also commands these choices too.

Living sounds, did you run them trough Lexicon 300 already? I'd be very interested in trying to replicate them with AA reverb.

I take bets on this being impossible. There's already a file with a static and rather unsuited reverb availible (check the IR vs algorithmic thread). I'll provide a better example soon.

I think it might be impossible too but I have some rather radical ideas on how to do it (would require several AA instances and a lot of other plugins ).
