It'll be just bigbluelounge.com from now on, I think the redirect from osxaudio.com has expired.

As far as the announcement suggested, Tony is currently having the DNS set up for the new server. Which might take a couple of days (or weeks?), telling from the experience of previous osxa drop outs when moving the server.

Cheers,

;) Urs

PUTTE....
URS....
do U miss my bad german poetry?

i departed OSXa when someone started to delete my posts or inform me why they were deleted.
frickin' politics, i guess.
i miss a lot of the peeps from there, tho'.

Musique Xerox,

we do miss your Frankfurtish poems!

You know, there was a lot of stuff about deleted posts back then. But it wasn't all that bad. A lot of peeps were getting way too hot about things and thus a couple of threads were deleted. There was also a certain background (conspiracy thing) that those who know don't talk about. I might send you a PM when I'm less drunk than now.

Laterz,

;) Urs

I hope the new Big Blue Lounge has less post deletions and thread closings, but more conspiracies!

I quit posting there when every thread I posted in was locked in a 3-4 day period, including the infamous "christmas present" thread. I can take a hint. the christmas thread was what made me finally give up on them though. good luck to them, but I don't see how opening it to windows discussions is going to help.

I still like to browse the threads sometimes though.

.. about the policies at osxa: i dont like them, and never liked them. to be a bit more direct (and yes, i'd dare to tell it over there as well): its a bit "snobbish" to me.
but well, thats all a matter of preception.

the very best example, to me personally, is the way Ben@kvr handles the schnitzel .. :)

things between people can get difficult, and it doesnt help to censor it .. thats at least what i think.
people are people .. and its on us to handle it all.

this, i think is the masterstroke for OSXa. it's a wonderful compendium of knowledge from a certain era... the advent of the AU as the standard plug format for the mac OS, the establishing of a unified solution to integrating the OS of the computer with the tools needed to do near realtime processing needed for audio (no more ASIO or other 'patches' needed) AND a wonderful history of the gnashing of teeth and sturm und drang of a close knit group of people who wanted something far superior than had ever existed.
the OT threads are a beautiful missive that are a touchstone to the intelligence, wit and insight of those involved. it's also a rare document compared to the offerings of other forums.
and urs, inebriation is all relative as Ur teutonic physicist, einstein, proved.

The bigbluelounge has been on a downward slide for quite some time.

The quality of discourse there is shit now. Where it used to be great. All of the censorship of the mods has been rediculous.

Putte is right, people are people, and people have different views, and have disputes. That is the beauty of life, and why I liked that forum. I like to hear the viewpoints of people from all over the world.

Hopefully this new update will be more than just web programming and a new look and feel. Hopefully the mods will change their attitudes, and their approach to dealing with users. This is where the update is really needed.

Well, I'm going to cut and run, unfortunately, because I'm literally minutes away from a 10-day trip to Jamaica, without much contact with the web and the forums. I just want to say that I do find it interesting and surely very predictable that once again, it's when osxaudio is down that people start to bitch and moan about it. The comment about posts being deleted without warning and/or a PM with an explanation is total crap. I can tell you that the mods try to discuss all hard decisions (like deleting, banning) with as many people as possible. As for the overall 'mood' there, yeah, it's not a let-it-all-hang-out place like KvR. So what! There are many different 'styles' in forums, just like bars, restaurants, schools and other public places. If you don't like the 'atmosphere' of a given forum, then by all means, don't hang out there. And given the relatively small world of digital audio, please don't start kicking at osxaudio when it's not up and running - that's just cowardly. To those osxaudio regulars who don't like where it's at but who still want to be members there, please voice your opinion there (when it's back up), so that there can be some constructive outcome, don't just whine here for whining's sake. All the mods there really want that place to be the best it can be for all members, and are open to critiques and suggestions.

Now, like I said before I have to run (and fly away!)

GOOD LUCK WITH ZEBRA2, URS!!!!

.. hi ned .. :)

i'm one of these who don't like the current politics at osxa, and i'm one of these who still want to be active members.
but at the same time i'm one of those who also voice their opinion there, and not just here.
though, i still think that there's something "snobbish" about the moderation .. ;)

but, like i already said, thats all a matter of perception.

Personally, I really like the BigBlueLounge and for the most part, appreciate the moderators' efforts, but I have seen a thread closed just because people were arguing about musical taste. They weren't given a chance to work it out.

I think the metaphor for the lounge really is a school. Maybe that's not a bad thing. I can live with that because I learn so much from the moderators and other smart folks there to put up with occasional intervention. (Likewise, I think that when school is out, we should be able to talk about school in other places like here.)

And maybe "lounge" is right because, the attitude seems to be that loud (argumentative) discussions aren't welcome. Maybe that is a good thing. I used to go to a bar that was ruined (physically as well as the vibe) when it began to attract rowdy lads. The owner was too tolerant

It seems like the underlying approach of the moderators at BBL has been, "are you treating people with respect?" It can be hard to tell, though.

Post

well I'm sure they didn't see it that way, and I know the moderators try to do the right thing, but I saw many threads closed with no explanation at all and I never could figure it out. one of them even said something like "you know why" when people kept asking why.

Ned seems like a good guy, but I will talk about it wherever I want. I tried to talk about it there and got shot down. I'm not mad about it, I've just moved on. actually that's part of the reason, I (and others) where told repeatedly that if we didn't like it then we could leave.

like I said, I can take a hint. especially when someone says leave ;-)

Ned,

Sometimes you seem like a real nice guy, with lots of great knowledge to share, but you post is just out of touch with the reality of the BBL. My main beef with the bigbluelounge, and one of the reasons that I think (read: IMHO) BBL is on a downward slide is the censorship of criticism of the forum. The forum has a "our way or the highway" vibe, and when users speak out, the threads often get locked.

I haven't posted there in a while because of this, and just by lurking I have seen most of the best posters (i.e. putte), haven't been posting much either. I don't know maybe they have other extenuating circumstances, other than the bad vibe, that lead them not to post.

P.S. Here we go again with the whining comments about forum users from the BBL mods. I don't think that calling concerned forum users "whiners" is very constructive.

Have a fun trip!

I wasn't involved in that thread, was I?????

Oops, totally missed this thread, I think. And then there's Sven of Frankfurt, posting from t-dot again... Wow! What a surprise...! Great to see you around here!

Cheers,
