But don't think for a second I'm "making fun" of anyone; I'm struggling to understand this all-powerful force in our societies that, to me, just doesn't make sense.
Anyway, I'll HPC if I think I can get something you guys won't dismiss in a heartbeat; dreamtheater, I'm contacting you. I do really want to explore these things, atheist or not.
Im agnostic, can I use your synth?

Whoo, I've got alot to respond to. I'll start with this one.bduffy wrote:Totc, I totally agree with your post, but I don't understand how someone posting a mean-spirited, anti-religious post is a "bleeding heart"? I thought that was a term used by the right to describe people who "have feelings", and care about the "homeless" and "the environment" and other such nuisances?TotcProductions wrote:First of all, this post is wildly inappropriate johnnytluxury. You're obviously well educated in the English language, and have a sprinkling of ability to make complex thoughts and process information. The problem comes somewhere in between the processing and the expulsion of the words to your computer. To me, you seem to be nothing more than a bleeding heart college student with far too much time on his hands. Are you on spring break this week or something? Didn't have any friends that wanted to take you out with them?
Despite the said intent of your original post being humorous, the fact that you felt the need to post such a comment to the community suggests that you felt some indifference to the developers religious commitment. Therefore, you needed to slander him. You are too intelligent to make the mistake of really slandering the developer hear though, especially knowing how much appreciation resides on these forums for his synthesizer. So, you disguise your grievance as a punctuated joke. Revealing that, as intelligent as you are, you are not intelligent enough to realize or care about the fact that differences in beliefs and people are what makes this human race what it is. You are a slave to your amygdala. Which I can not blame you for, as it is somewhat natural for an educated, yet emotionally challenged individual. However, such actions are rather unnecessary and not at all appreciated here at KVR.
To drive my argument a bit further, you obviously do not understand the true meaning of the word agnostic. Agnostic is not necessarily the Refusalto except Jesus Christ as one's savior...but in fact, they believe that we, as human beings, are incapable of comprehending the nature, ways, and very existence of a higher being, however, agnostics do acknowledge the existence of a higher power. They just do not feel they are capable of identifying that higher power's wants, needs, and character. Therefore, they do not formally practice or worship a deity. They feel it is not there place to do so.
In sum, you seem, to me, to be a starbucks-branded liberal with a deep feeling of insecurity, probably due to you feeling unappreciated throughout your life. Your obvious criticism is not constructive, or even productively thought provoking. Therefore, it is, in my opinion, unwarranted and unnecessary. Please sort out your psychological problems with a licensed therapist. I think you'll find it much more helpful.
Take that fucko!
So, to bduffy: Yes, you are correct. I'm using it in my own secret code context.
grymmjack wrote:Holy crap, remind me not to get on your bad side man.

Yes sir. correct here as well. [see my reply to bduffy]....another case of me giving someone odd directions to explain something, and leaving out a left turn.meffy wrote:M'sieur Trains, I agree with some of what you're saying. But in my experience "agnostic" is commonly used to mean those who profess that we can never know whether or not a supreme being, creator, etc. exists at all, much less the nature of such a thing. Agnostics neither deny nor affirm that existence, just say that it's impossible to know.
Will you, Totc, defend a person's ability to make such a restriction on the usage of my synth? Will you call anyone who disagrees a "fucko"? Because if you wouldn't then I'd say you are completely biased and your opinions are of little value.
Actually, that isn't at all what I'm doing here. It's far more complex than that. In all legality and reality, the synth is licensed under the GPL, which to my knowledge, mentions nothing about restricting users based on religious affiliations. The developer has made a request of potential users. He even says PLEASE. So, there is no REAL obligation to accept jesus in order to use the synth. The developer makes this suggestive statement on his own space, and his own space only in this case. If one does not agree, or feels 'bullied' by this, I am simply saying that the 'user' certainly has every right to not use the synth due to the fact that it is tied to someone using their programming and dsp talent to inform people of their belief. I am not completely biased. While it would be logically impossible to remain COMPLETELY un-biased on anything while simultaniously taking a stance, it is not impossible to take a stance based on facts and reality. The 'stance' is purely opinion...but is has more than dogma to give it weight. Now, what I was 'attacking' was the 'users' need to publicly attack the developer in his own forum. I feel it's unnecessary and while we all are free to make any and all decisions of our own free will, in order to maintain any sort of 'order' in a community, there must be certain guidelines. You have every right to break them, however, in a society, when you break guidelines, there are consequences to pay. lol, am I making sense here? Food for thought I suppose. You can ponder it till you're blue in the face, and you'll come to the same whole filled with uncertainty becuase, as of this time, it's beyond human understanding, which is actually the basic of agnostics in the first place no?
Now, as for the fucko thing.... I took a ride on a train of thought (where do you think my screenname came from in the first place?
That's ashame. You are entitled to do so if you wish however. It doesn't really chip away from who I really am as a person, but more so the initial image that I have portrayed to you. This new image is no more and no less....just different.Lawnmower Of The Damned wrote:I've lost a lot of respect for you today, Totc.
Now That is a perfectly reasonable statement. Well played sir.SaviorNeeded wrote:I must be the only person at KVR who doesn't believe in ZynAddSubFX. I tried it and didn't like it. There may be a religious object lesson in here somewhere, but I'm still on my first cup of coffee.
Yikes....
Now, to the real point in all of this. I never mentioned it in my original posting, which I regret. These discussions have an actual place here on the forum, it's called hydes park corner or something like that. We should be respecting Zynaddsubfx's own support forum and have these discussions where they belong, so users can focus on..well..using. I'm going to have a smoke now. My brain hurts.

Hello, Totc. I'd long forgotten about that!
OK, well, that doesn't sound like a "bleeding heart" to me, but in lieu of the proceeding argument, is hardly important. Thanks!

Ahh Totc. To call me a "fucko" My reply is short and sweet. First of all, it was a joke. Funny as I thought the idea of advising us to not use the software in a manner which would not benefit his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You obviously didnt get it. To make a long winded reply to something that bears NO matter whatsoever is sad. Jack off more. Twat.
P.S. I am agnostic, and it simply mean i do believe in a higher power, just not one of the conventional sort. the details of higher power is continously debated, So I'll, for time sake, simply say that there are things out there thAt have a rank higher then mine. You are surely not one. And to think I had respect for you at one time. Weak.

Why cry about your own desires, when I could have them and leave you standing in the sadness of your own....

I was hoping to see this thread had died by now. But no, it turned into a nice dispute where software vendors call (prospect or maybe even current) customers names. And that's not the first time at kvr. Risky.
In my experience religion and politics are things where it's very risky to make jokes (or even smart-ass remarks). That's why I never discuss either of them with e.g. my parents.
In my view, johnny, you asked for the names you get called in this thread, because of the light-hearted approach with which you step onto this quite delicate and sensitive subject. (And NOT because you are or are not a fucko, I don't know you well enough for that
).

Good point Hans, I should have used more tact. I was feeling comical. But nobody deserves being called names. I didnt call any names, well until I was attacked, and I dont feel anyone had the right to attack me unless it was the author him/herself. But this is an open community, and i fully understand the ideals that go along with it.

I agree, calling names is not the way to solve anything. However: most kvr members are humans like any other, and when something is touched that is close to your heart, you get emotional quickly and irrationally. e.g. I never fight (usually not even with words), but when anyone touches my daughter, ....johnnytluxury wrote:But nobody deserves being called names.
