Back to the question about mastering plugins/dynamics and such.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the plugins from Voxengo, www.voxengo.com.
I haven't tried the mastering stuff myself in a project yet, but a lot of experienced users have compared the plugins quite favorable to UAD/powercore.

"I know the Voexngo plugs are supposed to be transparent"
Not every Voxengo-plugin is supposed to always be transparent. Have a look at the new Marquis compressor at the Voxengosite and see the testimonial form Dave Rich:
"I just bought Marquis and have to say it compares extremely favourably with my UAD plugins. ... I replaced my La-2a and 1176LN plugs in several projects and dialled in very similar (usually better) sounds with ease - even though this plug is very versatile it's pretty quick to use which is how a channel compressor should be IMHO."
Just so you know. By the way, I don't work for Voxengo. Cheers!

OK, got the Powercore working at last - in a friend's Intel/I865 machine.
At least I got decent money for it.
Bye bye TC, there's always alternatives.
Cheers, susiwong
Oh, in case you haven't heard already, that hyped 2.0 driver, which has been delayed for more than 2 months now, will not fix nada. All it brings to the users is a new control panel GUI and a new copy protection/demo licensing system. Only for TC's benefit, not for the users'.

"We have been investigating this issue and hope to be addressing it in a forthcoming PowerCore 2.0 sub-release."
Talk about pro support. This issue has been known for half a year now.

Whaaat ?I removed this post because i don't wanna bash software plugs any more. I'm afraid someone will sue me.
Wtf is this ? You are entitled to bash and behead whatever software or developer you like !
More often than not, the negative comments on a software are more informative than the positive...
If anybody is threating you, or threating to sue you. Post the threats here and you'll see who's getting bashed !
makes me mad this does !
<Rapture> Tsk, it's [new processors] as bad as penis comparisons, really.
<rejs> but penises don't double in performance every 18 months...

EJo,
basically yes. Should work fine since I've got nothing else on my firewire bus. The VIA firewire chipset seems to be one of the better options around. Can't tell you for sure, though, check the Powercore forums. Lots of threads about compatibility there.
Did a lot of reverb testing lately and came to the conclusion (like others before me) that I have yet to find a PC reverb that even rivals my hardware RSP 550s or Lexicon MPX-1, so I'll spend my money on other things and wait till someone manages to equal at least a PCM 91 or M 3000. Though the Classicverb and Plate 140 admittedly were the best of the bunch.
So in the meantime I'll gladly use my UAD reverbs, Kjaerhus Classic and SIR, I found no reason to buy another plugin atm except for gear lust. Well, maybe CSR, but not without a real demo.
Cheers, susiwong
