Yeeep!!! :D :) Thx, blortbort!

I changed the resolution on my left screen (main working space for the apps):
Oatmeal-GUI works here at 1280 x 960 !

But NOT at : 1280 x 1024

Fuzzpilz, I like your synth a lot (fell in love with it in 1 hour :D )!!

Will post my "blind" theme I recorded via FL automation here.

Though it would be great if you could make it work at this higher resolution too 8)

I have this high resolution because some softsynths taking more place than your so ergomically designed baby.

My res is 32 bit 1280 x 1024 @ 85hz and it shows up fine, small, but as it should be.

I still get garbl-ity gook.

First I got a black screen but I do get sound and I can skip through presets in FL studio. Then I switched setting of my videocard from 16 to 32 bit and now I can see the GUI and get sound but now somehow the presets are gone... :?

wow. sounds great. gui a bit small. everything already said about that. hehe. a 2 minutes gui mockup. added background, a bit more contrast. but i suck at graphics so. bla :)

edit: i just opened the png backed up the original and renamed the new one. tested it in eXT. works.

Great synth :!: I love synths that can ramdomize.

Worked very well in FLStudio 6.0.8.

Hey if you can fix that garble gooky problem I'll make a PropheSea skin. I do like the minimalistic GUI approach, but there needs to be a bit more differentation between the seperate elements, or paged panels or something. It's a tad overwhelming is all.
Yeah, originally I was going to get around to making the GUI system load information from text files and blah, but I got lazy. Not making it paged was a deliberate choice, though - I figured there wasn't really enough stuff there to warrant that. If I'd integrated the waveform editor into the interface, or if I had multipoint envelopes, sure.
One question I really want to know is what did you create this VST using...?
Good old Visual C++ 6.
But it isn't like he didn't know Oatmeal sounded great (baiting bastard :p ).
I'll admit I heard friendly things from other people I'd shown it to before. That doesn't mean I have to agree with them, though. ;)

Left screen? There's a hint. JackDark (and anybody else having this sort of problem), do you by any chance have a multi-screen setup as well? I suspect my deciding to not worry about that was a mistake...

sorry to have to report a buggy appearance:

Tried to open it in FL Studio 6.08 - all can be heard fine,
but the GUI isn't ther. The only thing I can see is the x/y/z controller grapic down on th left. The whole other screen is displayed BLACK :?
Don't believe it's my graphics card, cos I can all the other guis fine.

Anyways now will do the "blind" test  :)

cheers,

I'm having a similar problem. :( I also tried it in Fruit Loops 3 for the heck of it, and yeah, garbled interface.

However, I could hear it.

Yes, this synth has some fantastic patches, though I couldn't tell how much of that was due to internal FX. Really that doesn't matter though, because it's free and it sounds fantastic with hardly any CPU usage. I just wish I could actually see the interface!

Either way... this is the most positive fuss we've seen about a free VST in a long time, and for good reason. I think we have a new dev star here folks, no doubt. But it isn't like he didn't know Oatmeal sounded great (baiting bastard :p ).

woah...thats what it looks like in Receptor as well..so its not a receptor issue. But eXT is fine! THis thing sounds great..please update it!

Bloody hell, Oatmeal is amazing!!! (never thought I'd ever be saying that - I hate that cereal! :hihi: )

I tried it initially in MiniHost (no problems whatsoever) and when I used the patch generator it also produces a random patch name! How cool is that?!

Have since tried it in FLStudio 6.08, also with no problems. The GUI is actually pretty cool (sort of a 'Synth-1' meets 'Voyager' look), though I'd have to agree it does need to be made larger, at least for my 1920x1440 display. Still, its very workable.

Onto the most important part - the sound. Wow.....like, REALLY wow! Rich basses and really clear, open mids and highs - this sounds fantastic. There is a whole world of sound generation to be discovered in this little baby; it's a tweaker's delight, so its hard to know where to begin describing its features as it has so many. Thankfully, there is the very well implemented random patch generator - don't take my word for it - download it, find that random button and just get into it! :)

Thanx heaps Fuzzpilz, that's a great piece of work, all the more remarkable considering your modesty - keep up the good work!! 8)

Okay figured out what was going on...

This is the "net" computer and it's old so I run it at 16-Bit. Turned the res up to 32-Bit, and blammo, Oatmeal's GUI gleamed perfectly!

Tried for the hell of it to convert the .PNG to 8-Bit and loaded it again under 16-Bit res, and garble gook still.

This is a more complex C++ issue I would imagine. So, maybe Fuzz already knows what is causing the GUI to go flunky under 16-Bit. But! If you are at a loss as to why Fuzz, I know one hellacious C++ programmer who specializes in graphics that can help if need be. Considering your skills though, I doubt you're at a loss.

Honestly, amazing work. If we SynthEdit payware instrument devs are to be put out of business by C++ freeware like this, you'll never hear me complain. :hail:

The nice thing about having the skin as a PNG is that you can change the color/contrast if you so desire... like THIS for example.

Whaddya know, Oatmeal's skinnable! :hihi:

Well, thanks for the kind words. :)

If the problem is just related to 16 bit magic (and I can replicate the problem by just setting my desktop colour depth to 16 bits - how did I not catch that?), that'll probably require less effort to fix than what I thought it was at first (using an 8 bit PNG won't help since I'm converting it to 32 bits on load for laziness reasons) - I'm going to bed now, but I'll have a look when I get up.

(edit: to some extent, yes, you can change the skin - but note how the colours of the lines in the XY pad are all inappropriate, and the spacing in the status bar is wrong. If you're going to change things, at least retain the red lines in the font; they tell it where the letters stop. I should probably fix some of this.)

That means you can change the colors just like Synth1 except easier... so yeah, bye bye Synth1.

Sweet! Thanks for this freebee! Here is a short experimental example idea i came up with some minutes ago, 5 oatmeal instances used plus some additional effects. The kick and the snare are presets, the rest was randomized. :)
