I've thought about it plenty of times, learning C++ or Delphi. Honestly, the time it would take to invest in learning the language wouldn't be worth it for myself, because I don't plan to do the "VST dev" thing much longer (8 more plugs to go). I want to get back to spending my free time making music, not music tools.

However, I am very glad there are people like Fuzzpile out there who do take the time to learn the "real thing" and come kick everybody in the nuts like this.

Okay tried the new compile using 16-Bit color, and this time I didn't even get to the garbled GUI, instead I got this error message:

"Bitmap incompatible! How vexing, No GUI for you."

Post

Argh. That really, really, shouldn't be happening... and it doesn't for me, which means annoyance.

Post

It's okay man, I mean, 99% of folks out there will be running 32-Bit color, I'm sure. You have to be a poor archaic bastard like me to run into the problem. ;)

i got the same msg on 32-bit color display.

I've been playing with Oatmeal too, and it's really a great synth - at first I thought it was difficult to program, but it's very logical :D! You might say there are already enough 2-osc VA's, but... no, there aren't. Every VA has a different flavor, and Oatmeal is a flavor that I like :D

Anyway, the reason I quote that quote is because

(A) Synth1 is not overrated.
(B) Oatmeal reminds me of Synth1 ALOT. It's like a big brother to Synth1, kind of, in my eyes, just from the functionality. It's not quite as raucous and brash as Synth1, but it has more range and refinement. It's got a bigger featureset, but "per knob" its programmability compares well with Synth1, which is quite a feat!

A great-sounding synth with logical layout and good features is always appreciated :D thanks, Fuzzpilz

This should at least give slightly more informative error messages.

Post

Personally I think Synth1 is overrated, but that's a matter of opinion. I hated its GUI, totally unintuitive, blah blah, and I thought the sounds were thin. I know I'm in the minority in that opinion, and I'm "OK" with that, so let's not turn this into an Oatmeal VS Synth1 thread. :scared:

I am glad however, that everyone seems to agree Oatmeal is fantastic.

Post

i just logged in to laugh at the thread title, but turns out this is a great synth - the dev is either overly modest or has self esteem issues. nice work, thanks.
come on you ..... lets have some aphex acid.

Congrats Fuzzpile, Oatmeal is loading perfectly in 16-Bit now (for me at least)!

SelectObject failed. Why! The handle is invalid.

Post

Another attempt. A question for those who are still having trouble: are you using more than one monitor? With different colour depths, maybe?

Post

Still same error. Single monitor here, running 1920x1200 resolution on 23" LCD.

EDIT: btw, the first zip you posted worked here (hence my "thanks")...

EDIT2: not that this makes any difference, but my desktop wallpaper is a .jpg, not a .bmp. Shouldn't matter, right?

EDIT3: ok... I rebooted, just cuz I thought maybe since i got the error msg previously, might be effecting things. And.... works fine now, after reboot! Sorry if I had you banging your head against the kb... ;)

Post

Ok, I think I know what's going on. I originally put the files in the VST-Plugins\Testing\oatmeal folder. Since I like the VST, moved it to VST-Plugins\Misc\oatmeal folder. And it doesn't work when it's moved.

Post

Ah, good to hear. Anyone else still running into problems?

...good to hear that the reboot fixed it, that is, not your second post. That's really weird; the files' location shouldn't make any difference.
