Performance of Receptor? / Colossus

Thanks for all the info. I've been contemplating buying the receptor/colossus package. After reading some of these posts I think maybe waiting is in order. I wanted to take advantage of a nice package price. Of course a good price is only good if the package works. Thanks Again. :? :?

Hello All,
Haven't looked in in awhile, I think I must have missed something. Some of you have loaded IVORY on you receptors?
Is there an installer or is it still unsupported?
Thanks,

Hi guys

Just thought I'd chime in here. Not sure why there is all this discussion about Ivory, since it is definitely NOT released. To judge it at this point is pretty unfair, since it hasn't even been officially released by software QA. As for performance of Ivory, I haven't done a Receptor versus PC or Mac comparison, but from what I am told (from the people who created the plug-in) Receptor runs it better than any other platform at any price.

As for software updates, any system as complex as Receptor beneftis from new features and bugs that are fixed. If you had Receptor software version 1.0, you are much happier with V1.4, or even beta 1.5 with the massive improvements in features and stability. After all, Receptor is a software-based music instrument, and we are trying to increase the value of everyone's investment by adding new and valuable features that optimize the ownership experience.

And Sonar support is on its way, sorry it isn't in the initial release, but Sonar is a very complex product and we try to make sure that stuff actually works when its released!

I really do not intend to discourage anyone from buying or using Receptor - If fact when mine works, it works well. I don't mean to be a party pooper but in my own case I am very discouraged with it and will usually try really hard to not even go through the aggravation of turning it on because . . . . as I have clearly stated to anyone and everyone I have ever discussed it with, from the saleperson that sold it to me ..... to the present day - my decision to purchase was based soley on EW's Colossus, ie: Being able to use that software on it. That is all I have ever required of it. Logic dictates to me that I should not need a software update to do this when it was sold for this specific purpose. Currently, about the only thing that could possibly increase Receptor's value to me would be to send it to Muse and they either fix it so it runs without rebooting or replace it. OR maybe my getting out the sledge hammer because at my age, I don't hold out much hope of ever getting all the bugs worked out of it so it will run consistently and .... at the same time use it via uniwire in Sonar. I can't even fathom how many corrupt files would occur in Sonar the first time it decided to reboot. Been there done that with the infamous Yamaha usb driver failure issues. For those that don't know, Yamaha usb looses communication and consequently Sonar goes beserk and blue screens the computer (sometimes - but not every time). When it does blue screen the machine any files that you thought where already written to disk probably were not written even though Sonar plainly showed the process of the files being saved unless you had the forsight to turn off disk caching - which you won't find out about needing to do to prevent this from happening until you pin down Cakewalk on the issue. But if you do turn off disk caching Sonar won't run very well any more. But the "real" problem is that whatever song you were working on and may have had had untold hours in might be (WILL BE) unrecoverable post last safety backup. Yamaha blames the problem on Sonar and that they (Cakewalk) should have forseen the possiblility that a usb port could loose communication, Cakewalk blames it on Yamaha and the file caching problem on microsoft and round and round she goes. I blame all this on my own stupitity for buying all this hi tech stuff and being dumb enough to believe that mere mortals could make it all work together. But maybe I am a tad shell shocked because of the ordeal, loosing my work and the constant mental anguish and drain on creativity and productivity.

I am not the sharpest tack in the box but, again, I really don't see why I would or should need a software update to just run Colossus. As I said above, that's what it was sold to me for. It has never been moved from my little studio - never been abused - and it has absolutely never, ever worked consistently or without great difficulty on my part from the day I received it.

I am sorry to have to put it this way. I'll go put on my flame suit now.

the fact that your unit is rebooting a lot says something is wrong. It could be a problem with the RAM, or it could be something fixed by a software upgrade. Either way, we couldn't stay in business if Receptors crashed half the time, so I would like to take a look at your unit.

Please send me a personal email and we'll get it squared away. And thanks for giving us the chance to make things right.
