ok i'm using this synth at 96khz.
it's a good synth that does everrything and more decently well.the saw oscillator which didn't convince me at first is fine across the whole range.
the filter is ok-ish.
only gripe....the GUI NEEDS TO BE +25% BIGGER. MY EYES HURT AFTER 20 MINUTES WITH IT.

If you are talking about the quite brass part over the drone both are Tim's AngleWings. If you are talking about the badly played, too soft&loud melody line it's PulseWidthHeaven.scuzzphut wrote:ooh! what's that Bladeruuner patch called then, Tom ? The big bright saw at the start of your tune, I mean.

First of all, thanks Fuzzpilz for this great synth. I've been working a bit with it and got this (call it song, call it something)

Just one instance of Outmeal. Not processing at all.
This synth is very inspiring. The GUI is not as great problem for me. I still work in CRT 800x600 and sometimes I'm tired of scrolling.

This is an amazing first VST, Fuzzpilz! I've been a fan of you Buzz plugins for a while (esp Chorpse and the Unwieldy stuff) but this takes the cake. Very deep and versatile and it makes excellent glassy digital pads and ambience. This is certainly going to be a goto synth for stuff like that. And it's low on CPU to.
Stuff this good sounding really shouldn't be free!

Yeah your Buzz stuff is amazing! Any chance of porting some of them?

I've finished a first version of the skinning stuff. Still no alpha blending, but at least now you can fake it by using different knobs (and rearrange things, and so on; although the more you do differently, the more annoying text file editing you'll have to do). This may or may not also fix the editor size bugs some people have been experiencing.
(Quick hint: if you just want to use one of the replacement PNGs, you can put it in a different subdir of the skin directory and make a copy of the "default.oms" file with the path replaced - it's only referred to once in the default skin, conveniently)

I'm in the camp that this synth is all about effects. The oscs and the filters don't hit me as hard as PolyIBlit or Voyager or ASynth, which, in my opinion, are the three strongest free synths.
Oatmeal, like Synth1, has rather thin sounds without effects. Having said that, it's more convenient to have patches that choose not just oscs and filter settings, but also chorus, delay, arp, etc. Therefore, I understand why this synth is so popular. It's just plain easier to have the effects built in. Any synth that doesn't have a huge effects section is going to be relatively ignored.

There are three kinds of people. Those who would pluralize math by adding an "s" and those who wouldn't.

there are two kinds of people. those who realise that maths is short for mathematics and those ignorant fuckwits who think that math is singular. have a nice daymistertoast wrote:>>There are 3 kinds of people: Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Actually, I will. Thanks.
I was making a joke based on the British/American difference in language, pretending that I thought the contraction was a plural. For those who don't know, Americans think that "math" is short for mathematics and "maths" isn't a word. But I'm guessing you knew what I was doing and made a joke back. :->

Ok now, here we go:

Get it here:
http://www.majken.se/images/oatmeal-majken-v1.zip
Just unzip and put into the skins folder. Any comments and suggestions on improvements would be very welcome.
Fuzzpilz: Cool! This skinning system seems easy enough for changing the placement on the various bits and pieces. Got some ideas for my skin right away, I'll see when I can get around to trying it out properly
