Ah, I didn't think to consider that sort of situation. I'll do something about it.R.A.W. wrote:Fuzzpilz, i got one FR regarding the skin-support: would it be possible to use a relative (to the .dll) path in the "current" file?
i'm asking for this cause i got a dualboot system and the partition where i got oatmeal has different drive-letters on each system which leads to an error on startup (still oatmeal loads with the default skin).

Please, stop adding fuel to the fire - I'm sure Kriminal's opinions are quite honest, though he did express them rather more rudely than necessary.

Thanks for the freebie. One of the best synths I've used in the past 18 months.

You're a sound designer so you have different priorities but 99% of the time, effects make it far more difficult to sit something into a mix without muddying everything up, paticularly delay and chorus. They work fine for soloing a sound but I very rarely use them in a mix. I have a global delay in a send slot that works far better [and sounds much better too] but the only thing I might put chorus on is a string pad to give it a little more life in the back of a mix but some restrictive EQ will also be necessary to keep it in line.tconrardy wrote:Then are we right in stating that it sounds good WITH effects?..that is..treating the effects as if it were part of the synth, which it is. I don't understand why people bring up a preset which sounds good by itself. Then turn off the effects and say it sounds "not good". Then say the whole synth is not good.
Then they would have been exposed for the thin, tinny things that they were. Since the very early 80's I've thought that Roland spent an inordinate amount of time trying to cover for the basicaly poor sound of its synth engines with lots of bells and whistles.Edit: a further comment on effects: what would have happened if Roland did not decide to put on Chorus units on all thier synths?

I kind of agree with BONES here.
This is why i'm looking seriously at the fabfilter twin - no effects, just oodles of modulation options & it sounds fat.
One of the reasons I like reason is that the synths (even though the filters are a little weak) are bare bones & one has to effect them up oneself.
On the other hand, it's nice to have a synth with quality built in effects for inspiration - a randomizer like this synth has got is just icing on the cake, I reckon they should be made standard on all synths - when ones a bit stuck hitting that randomize patch is marvelous.

mmm came a bit late to this, i do like the sound, pulled above the 'mediocre' in my opinion by the user definable wave editing, and hell, in spectrum edit mode it's even an additive. the filter's not bad and the doubling mode adds some life to it. and the arp's a lot of fun.
osc cross modulation as bones mentioned would be a nice addition, and cc assign to all knobs (but with ext such things aren't so important).
some of the things i really like a lot are the user friendly touches to the controls, things like the mouse controls on the knobs such as right click to default, middle button to 50%, ctrl or shft to fine adjust, and right clicking on switches to get a list selector. i wish every developer would provide these kinds of options (i mean there are even some recent synths that still have circular mouse action on knobs ffs), it's nice to see someone addressing useability in this way. the user drawable waveform and LFO
also have useful sets of controls. I hope (suspect) the time that's been spent on these reusable elements may mean we will see some very exciting things coming up from fuzzpilz in the future. and even if we don't this is a very nice freebie

I'd just like to point out that the knob labeled "Rate 2" in the LFO 2 section should be labeled "Rate 1" since that knob is for setting the amount of rate modulation for LFO 1.Majken wrote:And here's a sneakpeak of version2. It'll have alot of small changes

Well, actually, you might have something here. I recall when the korg M1 came out, which had a good amount of built in effects which the presets made generous use of.But most of the time, studio gurus spent time trying to take off the effects so they go in the mix.
as a sound designer however, i like the preset to sound good when you play/audition it. But perhaps i need to slack off the effects a bit( and I feel I have been to a certian degree)but it would be a challange for me to do a bank without effects, if the synth actually has them within it to use. But who knows..might take up the challange some day
and yes..I always thought of Roland as the bell and whisle synth company

Just thought I'd throw out my two cents on Oatmeal. I've spent some time playing around with it the last couple of nights and I found the more I played the more I liked it.
I didn't find it to be the kind of Synth that creates those truly unique and instantly identifiable sounds but rather that it just sounds nice. It just seems to sound good(to me)and the sounds are very playable.
Those are about the best things I can say about a Synth.
To sum it up, in a world were everyone is trying to stand out it's refreshing to find someone who seems happy just to fit in.
My thanks to Fuzzpliz

I suppose this has little impact on me because we [the royal "we"] have Genetics where we can take any two presets and randomly combine their parameters until we come up with something cool. Great for taking your two favourite sounds and coming up with your 3rd favourite one.diverdee wrote:a randomizer like this synth has got is just icing on the cake, I reckon they should be made standard on all synths - when ones a bit stuck hitting that randomize patch is marvelous.

I like that option also in the crystal synth, & I reckon it is a good option in a host - I take it that's a morphing type feature in ORION (see I even spellllled it rightly).

That works once a synth is mature enough to have some good sounds available. I tried the genetics mutate with scanned synth, but the problem was there really weren't any good patches available.

I was trying to get some bass from oatmeal, and here are some pretty standard, bass patches. They sound nice: the synth is very melodic and smooth - but it is a challenge to get a really hard hitting punch just yet: more time spent could yield better results, I reckon. But hey, for what it's worth -here are 16 basses
the attack on the envelopes won't go shorter than 20ms: maybe that affects the bass, or more likely, I need to figure out some of the phasing issues. Regardless, I am enjoying the synth, thanks. I would like to offer a bit more feedback after I have grown more accustomed to it
