I just wonder there are so many people around here telling exactly the opposite (like me, too).
It's a wonderful thing, innit ! :)

While we are talking about reverbs...and DSP cards...and System 6000...

...I found the DVR2 reverb to be amazingly lush and fat ( ?? ) (Another, in TCs word, plug "ported from the revered System 6000")and smmoth and....nice ! Much better than the UAD-1 EMT plate reverb...or maybe the UAD-1 plate reverb was emulating a different vintage reverb...nevertheless, DVR2 really thinckened things up without drowining the sound in a pile o mud...sweetness !

Didn't care much for the NonLin2...

I used to like the Classic Verb a lot...but I have just stopped using it after VSS3 came out...maybe an idea to check back in to see if it's still up for it ?...It created quite a stir when it first arrived.

well...I'm a rambelin. I'm just exited.
I'm grabbing the AA demo right now. It better be good !
<Rapture> Tsk, it's [new processors] as bad as penis comparisons, really.
<rejs> but penises don't double in performance every 18 months...

EJo, I think you completly misunderstood me. I'm very sorry for that. Maybe it's just my poor english that makes me expressing things in a wrong, misunderstandable way.
Nothing you think negative of my post was mentioned like that, trust me.

All I intended was to react to your post, and carefully understand or find out, why you like the rverb more than AA (what in fact makes me wonder :) ). Maybe you could give me a hint, why this is so. I was using this reverb for many years, too, and I know it very well (as lots of other reverbs including the VSS3/4).
But each one has different aims to what a reverb should do and sound like in a mix, I think, yours are just different to mine, this is no problem, nothing wrong, ok? :)

So I take back every thing you might have misunderstood, and reduce my statement just to the clarification of the "6000" thing, what initally was my intention... nothing more...

Keep on rockin, and peace please!

might be interesting for the future, do you refer to the "pmtimer" entry or is there anything else I should know ?
------------------
boot.ini

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=AlwaysOff /usepmtimer

-----------------
Thanks, susiwong
Yes, you are correct and your boot.ini looks fine.

Hi wolfbayne,
thanks for getting back !
I'm 95 % sure my Windows / hardware installation on this machine is relatively flawless, but one thing I learned is to always consider other people's opinions, it's so easy to overlook a detail with that complex stuff.
So thanks again,
have a nice sunday,

Let me see. If I wouldn't have a Powercore or UAD-1, this is what I would get:
Wave arts Power Suite 5 Bundle
Nomad Factory's Blues Bundle,BlueVerb DRV-2080
ArtsAcoustic Reverb
PSP Plug-ins
Auto-Tune4
Elemental Audio's InspectorXL

And your covered.

Just in case any other PoCo users think about building an AMDx2 based system ...

My MSI K8N SLI-FI (NForce 4 chipset) motherboard works perfectly with my PoCo (PCI, MKI). No BIOS updates or anything, just worked without a hitch and out of the box (with pre 2.0 drivers).

I'd get the PSP MasterPack. Then I'd probably get the Kjaerhus Golden Audio Channel for within tracks. For effects--PSP Nitro and Multi-delay. For reverb--I'd go with something like the Kurzweil Rumour. If you need a plug-in, I'd wait a couple more weeks for Altiverb.

i've got a solution for your powercore - bootup - problem...

If you were in luck, your Bios will have a setting called "Power on Self Test" - or something similar... The most Bios got "Fast" as Default Value

The Setting is mostly in the part of the bios where you could setup your Floppy-Drives and the Bios Password Protection, Image at Bootup, and the other "useless" stuff...

... so if you set it to "normal" - or "slow" or whatever the Bios will do a memory check at boot up... but this is not the benifit! but this longer "check" will give the PoCo the nessecery time and the availibility to "boot" before the BIOS will initialize the PCI Bus... :D

give it a try...

UPDATE---

The setting is called "Quick Boot" (with enable/disable) here at my mashine...

I've used rverb on so many productions in the past, and those still sound great. I know a lot of other professional studios that use it as their main reverb. /J
I agree with EJo - I've used the Rverb demo before I settled on the Waves Native Pack with Trueverb - I believe Trueverb sounds better and cleaner to me than AAR -
And like EJo I really liked Rverb - wish I had it but went with the NPP over the Ren Package and can't afford the Gold Package right now.

My worthless opinion - AAR and Masterverb, etc. are not worth the extra money ($150 or so) for one who already has Rverb or Trueverb -

Every ear and need is different and I respect other folks' ears.

God bless
