Btw, Sal did get back to me this morning (I'm up and running now).
I also let him know about the confusing content on the URL outlined above - I think they'll fix it.

I tried it and I like but I already have ValveTone which does a similar thing, though it has less curves. The "warming" is the standard TriTone happiness that you can also hear in HydraTone, IMO.
I'm pleased as punch that they released the 96 version of VT, but boy the latency is a killer on this one. Can only be used in real time with pads and slow strings and such.

Kingston: you might know this---what is actually achieved by sampling equipmet for IR convo? Just a frequency filtration signature?

Yes. You get just the frequency response. You need dynamic convolution to get more.
Cheers!

I recall Valvetone being more of a saturation thing, no? And that's how Kingtson felt about Colortone too - I guess the real advantage is that there are more models for the Colortone and that you don't have to fiddle with an EQ. Probably explains its appeal to me; I don't trust myself to approximate an SSL sound with an EQ. But I was experimenting yesterday, and you can of course get similar results with the Hydratone; but I was often peaking out the signal too.Frippertronix wrote:I tried it and I like but I already have ValveTone which does a similar thing, though it has less curves. I keep thinking, "well, maybe I should get Hydratone instead", but at the price and convenience, I'm tempted to stay with Colortone. I like just being able to throw it on a bus and go!

My thoughts exactly. I don't need another equalizer and Neon by PSP is looking much more appealing right now.bduffy wrote:Frippertronix wrote:

I've been messing with the demo for PSP Neon, and wow, this is another fine EQ. WARNING: the latency is off the charts in LinearPhase mode; but you can turn it off and play in wonderful phase mode. The CPU seems minimal in phase mode. Nice controls too, smooth response!
Damn you, feyshay!

I wasn't that impressed by it. PLPar free 3 band EQ sounds better to my ears. Both in linear phase and in minimum phase modes. It eats more CPU too though. Even Posihfopit sounds better to my ears than the PSP Neon but as both are relatively high quality (low aliasing or other artefacts) it all comes down to taste.
Still pending on Colortone Pro. I've gotten some pretty impressive results on certain material that I have not been able to duplicate any other way.
Cheers!

Yeah, I mean, it should be technically impossible to reproduce some of these things, because they're sampled from the actual gear, right?bmanic wrote:I wasn't that impressed by it. I kinda like the PSP EQ, but you're right: there are already some great options out there. But any smooth EQ along those lines always impresses me.

Bmanic. Were you trying the HR version at the higher sample rates? Do you think it is the lack of color that makes it a little bland? It's supposed to be that way, no?
