No, I tried the non-HR version as I have no iLock. Could be that it was meant to be a bit "sterile" sounding. Try the old +12dB bell boost from 10kHz on some material and compare it to the free Posihfopit (set to analogue, orfanidis mode). IMHO posihfopit totally kills it. :)

I just tried this, bmanic, and yeah...I hope PSP doesn't read this! :o

I tried the HR version. When I'm at this point (Mastering), I don't really want color. I want clean. It seems very clean. Don't really like Posihfopit (although it is FREE!). I'm thinking this is a very good equalizer, although high on CPU on the higher resolution and FAT mode.

For those who were unfortunate enough to miss out on the free PLParEQ, I guess they have to look elsewhere... :( Unless you have $1K for the 10 band.

@bduffy:

ValveTone is a two band EQ, but it colors even when flat (unless you switch it off). It also has four gain settings. It's more of an old school channel EQ, just high and low with a built-in warm mid signature. It has that "essence of TriTone", so to speak, though.

I guess if you don't want to futz with the EQ, ColorTone is nice, and it has more h/w samples and the ability to load them. Just depends on what you want. Colortone is a bit more passive than HT---it's basically an "analogizer". :)

Thanks, Frippertronix. Yeah, I downloaded the demo and, well, I'm sure seeing a common thread with these plug-ins! They all seem to have something that makes them unique, though. I kind of want them all, really. I do wish they'd not use the Pluggo Runtime; the loading times is just evil. :C

Hey folks,

Just wondering how many people here have loaded large numbers of additional impulses into ColorTone? There are a bunch of nice ones on the Tritone Forum, and lots of other places as well.

If so, I wonder if I am alone is this experience:

I added ca. 30 additional impulses. They loaded just fine, but when I went to scan and load them, I was forced to use the down arrow in the GUI to scroll down a very long, single list. It took quite a long time, and when you are searching for something at the bottom, it is frankly a maddeningly slow and tedious process. Having to do this for each instance of the plugin was very frustrating.

I kep wishing for a system more like the one used by SampleTank - one that uses subfolder:

http://www.sampletank.com/Main.html?sampletank2-overv05

Am I alone in really wanting this?

After all, the dozen or more Great River impulses would be so much easier to manage if they could live in a "Great River" subfolder" and I could expand or collapse those folders when browsing through a large impulse library.

Just a thought (though I did send Sal a friendly e-mail). Maybe sometime in the future we'll see some kind of update/refinement. I think it would be a siginificant usability enhancement.

That kind of a system was was the sole reason why the plug was delayed for so long. they had to compromise.
Had they did it this way, the plug would never come out. I believe they WILL try to fix it. on a personal note, browsing through 498 IR's on my DAW, this way... is NOT my idea of "fun"... :o

Besides the Great River impulses, which others did you like better than the included IRs?

I did not think I'd be alone in this :)

A shame, really, as the clunky interface can be a source of significant irritation.

Happily, it does sound great. :)

Cool plug... but I've been bitten by the (known) registration bug... registered fine this morning, but now the beep is back and it won't accept my response. Quite a let down.

Anyone else have this?

MickGael,

Here is shortcut I came up with for you (well, us):

1- Create Index points by saving your impulse sets using the Store Presets option of Cubase/Nuendo. There should be a similar option in other hosts. For example, in your case, if the desired impulse is "Great River", select it (preferably the 1st of the set) from the drop-down windown of ColorTone Pro. Once selected, store this set as a "Great River" preset using the Store Presets function.

Note: Again, if on Cubase/Nuendo, save by clicking on the diskette icon. The 'store presets' option is offered in this drop-down window. Sorry to repeat it so often.....just want you to get it right.

2- Make similar presets for all your 'impulse sets'. This trick will send you directly to that respective set. For example, a "Great River" preset takes you to that set of impulses, "API" to the API set, "Studer" to its set, and so forth.

3- For navigation within the sets, just use the up/down 'Models' arrows on ColorTone Pro. That's it!

Hope this helps! :)

I hoped so, too

But, apperantly, if you have too much impulses, and by that I mean "too much for the page scroller"... the index point wont "jump" to the currect location. it will MARK it, that's true, but still, you'll have to scroll manually to get there ...

Oh well.... luckily we can get away with what it does to the sound (spell : wonders - IMHO), for the time being ...

Yeah, I find the interface still a little gimpy...I'm having second thoughts about buying this. Sometimes I load Colortone and (after waiting 30 seconds for the interface to violently appear), often the convolution doesn't seem to load properly; presets don't load properly; those arrows kind of work if you click them just right...I mean, this thing must work totally differently on a Mac, coz I don't understand how they can release the plug-ins like this.

Don't get me wrong: love the plugin and adore Tritone for doing what they do, and I understand the Pluggo Runtime is essential for them, but it makes for a really bumpy ride using them on a PC, and it's making me second-guess it.

Eytan,

The index point does "jump" to the correct location. The Great River set goes from "G5" to "G60" (48 impulses overall). My stored preset was saved at "G5". Each and everytime I loaded it or any other preset, it "jumped" to the exact respective location. And I have 181 impulses currently in the folder. I guess that's not enough to recreate that "page scroller" problem.

I hear you though.......it's still cumbersome. But the indexing is still helpful with much larger sets. The Massive Passive one contains 57 impulses, the Voxbox has 299, Great River...48, etc. Shuffling between them would be an even BIGGER pain without it. Hopefully they'll remedy this soon.

The included impulses, however, are wonderful!
