Jules, thanx for looking into this!
I make heavy use of this segement thing in my current project. When it's finished I'll redo it in Tracktion, that will be a great test case.
Another example of my way of working (and maybe a great tip):
When I use my AutoTune plugin (OB-tune = DirectX), I don't want to use it on the whole track, but only on some words. I usualy render a second file (off-line) with AutoTune. Then I import that file into the lane editor, allign it with the original vocal, cut it up so there are only segments for the words that need correction. And in this way, it's very (VERY) easy to change which words are corrected. Especialy usefull with backing vocals.
Oh, and segements can be muted too, very easy for A/B comparisons.
I started using this way of working halfway through the project and I must say I like it very much and it works quite fast.

Hi Jules
I'm wondering about ReWire. With the current version 376 I'm able to import a Reason song as a midi file, then hook up all the tracks via Rewire and apply filters and or new VSTs in Tracktion
. I can also record directly from a Rewired device but when I push Launch Editor nothing happens. I'm assuming this is right for now and that ultimately the selected Reason device will show up in Tracktion as the other filters do now. Could you comment on this and on your ReWire development plans in general? Would also add that I was really happy with your solution to the great mixer thread debate

hi there
the Launch Editor button on ReWire devices just calls the appropriate function in the ReWire API - once tracktion has called this, what actually happens is entirely up to the device itself - ReWire has no concept of embedding device windows in a host, all they can do is open another application window (which Reason does if it's not already open, wheras Ableton completely ignores the 'launch editor' command)

Thanks for the reply Jules. My guess is that many more serious Reason users will be checking out Tracktion as a way of stepping out
.

Another probably dumb question with an easy answer...
Is it possible to set a MIDI channel to a track, regardless of the MIDI channel of the input device? I can see how to set a MIDI part to play on a specific channel, but I'd like the facility to do it on a track basis.
(I bet the answer is something bleedin' obvious that I've overlooked!)

Hi Rich,
You don't have to feel dumb about this, because there's no way you can do this with Tracktion yet
But this has allready been addressed and as far as I know it's on Jules' monstrous to-do list.
cheers,
vincent

That's a relief - I felt pretty daft over the MIDI thru pitch shifting question I asked on Friday which had an ultra-obvious answervisilia wrote: You don't have to feel dumb about this, because there's no way you can do this with Tracktion yet![]()

You can set the midi channel for a midi clip, though - so if you select all the clips on a track, you can set all their channels at once (I think.. or maybe one clip at a time.. can't remember)

Yeah, I've discovered that much, but what I'm after is effectively re-channeling on the soft thru function, or will it do that when over a MIDI clip with a channel set?jules wrote:You can set the midi channel for a midi clip, though - so if you select all the clips on a track, you can set all their channels at once (I think.. or maybe one clip at a time.. can't remember)

Hi!
I just got around to installing the demo last night and I really like the GUI. I feel like I'm using the "next generation" sequencing software.
I've been using Cubase for many many years (SX right now) and Ableton Live. I have had no problems with audio in either of these.
In Tracktion, when I record audio to a track, I will start playing at, say, bar 5. When I press start and the waveform is drawn, it will be pushed far ahead, like on bar 7 or 8. This of course makes it difficult to multitrack recordings. I have a Delta 44 card.
I tried to run the audio test in tracktion (You have to forgive me, it was late last night and I'm at work right now) but it kept coming back with inconsistent results and the adjustments it made didn't seem to fix the odd timing behavior. Am i doing something wrong?
BTW...I used all my VSTi's (Virtual Guitarist, Attack, etc, etc, etc) and they all worked great, Midi is not affected by this problem at all and is on time.
Thanks!
PS The reason I am trying Tracktion is I am tired of paying for expensive upgrades for Cubase only to find 20 new bugs that I have to live with for months until a patch is released. Basically, even though I have a ton of money invested in Cubase, I need to "get off the train" and maybe go to a sequencer where the developer listens and improves constantly. I see that here and it's encouraging.

hmm - sounds like a bug to me. If it was just a few milliseconds out of sync I wouldn't worry, but several bars out - eek!
If you email me your log.txt file (from the tracktion\~temporary directory) I'll see if I can spot what's going wrong. And let me know if the offset is always the same when you record, or whether it varies each time.
