Plus one. I've been out for three days and lost track of it all.
Me too. Don't know how many versions of this I've got lying around now - think I'll just purge the folder completely, grab the latest update again and wait for everything to be gathered together under one roof.
Of the skins I've got, some are no longer suitable as the synth's changed too much and certain parts aren't showing on older skins.
It shows a certain disadvantage to jumping the gun on something before it's actually completed, imo.
The one constant is/are the soundbanks.

This synth, and its accessories, desperately needs to be put on a page sooner rather than later and only the relevant, working, fitting, skins included. :)

Well, its been a little over a week (approaching 9 days in fact) since Oatmeal was released with minimal fanfare on an unsuspecting World, so I thought it would be a good time to revisit it 'post-hype' to see if it still lives up to its fearsome reputation. As we know with anything new, its very easy to get carried away and jump on the bandwagon for a ride of over 50 pages long. So, is Oatmeal still a 'Cereal Killer'???.....

You're damn right it is!!:D (At least as far I'm concerned, anyway!) After spending a good length of time with the random button, I kept coming up with great patch after great patch - really useable sounds. Sure, they needed a few tweaks here and there, but thats what synthesizing a sound is all about after all. I was careful to remove all of the effects from each patch before I listened to it and Oatmeal still sounded great. Here are few points to bear in mind for those of you who may be a little against auditioning a synth with effects though:

If the developer chooses to include fx in their synth, then those fx are an entirely legitimate part of the overall sound - as a listener, you can't just remove those aspects of the sound creation process because they are part of that process for any given synth. Perhaps we should ignore the filters, envelope generators and the modulation and just judge the sound of a aynth on its oscillators alone? Even better - just use one oscillator so as to avoid any fx from two slightly detuned oscillators?? Why not turn the one remaining oscillator don't so low that you can't even hear it? Absurd isn't it? (even completely silent, Oatmeal is still an awesome looking synth  :) ) I think you get my point though: judge any synth on the sound creation possibilities that have been put at your disposal by the developer.

I did that too, and, of course, it sounded even better!! Certainly at a first go, Oatmeal seems to lend itself to pads and leads as opposed to basses, but that may just mean that basses require a little more work. In fact, there has already been a mini-tutorial posted a few pages back on how to extract some bass sounds, so check it out. Oatmeal is such a powerful and diverse beast that its capable of most sounds you can imagine. A Jack-of-all-trades and master of none, perhaps? No, that would be a case of sour grapes and dismissing a quality synth simply for the sake of it. Not convinced? Look at the upsides of Oatmeal:

1.) A fantastic sounding synth offering enormous sound creation potential!
2.) More control over parameters and knobs to tweak than you (or I) can poke a stick at
3.) Very low CPU usage
4.) A quality, hand-coded piece of work
5.) The very cool random patch generator
6.) Excellent built-in fx
7.) Its skinnable! (yes, how it looks is important - most KVR-ists are guys and we love stuff that looks good!)
8.) The dev is really modest and also keen to improve his product
9.) Its FREE!
10) Did I mention it sounds bloody great?? :)

The only downside I can see with Oatmeal is that anything this good is always going to attract the odd person who's gonna whinge, bitch, moan and complain about it even though it doesn't affect them in any way at all

So, with a huge thankyou to Fuzzpilz, special thanx to Majken and Ezeeboogie for their cool skins and an honourary mention to everyone else who's provided skins and patches, I hereby vote Oatmeal as a bone-fide classic!! :)

In years to come, I'll be able to say "Yes, I was there when Oatmeal was born...."

Enjoy :)

This thing is seriously overhyped! PSYCLE won't load it and that means it's a bad synth.

Psycle is a state-of-the-art open source sequencer. Any developer not making his VSTs to work with it should be peed and then shot to death.

Here - the link in the thread's first post should always be up to date. Are you sure you extracted it correctly, subdirectories and all? What are the exact error messages you're getting?

Psycle loads it just fine for me and at least one other person I know - could you give more details on what goes wrong?
