Buying Muse Receptor Software Only

I would like to know if the idea of selling the Receptor software alone to MAC and PC users has ever crossed the minds over at Muse Research? For potential customers wishing to use the Receptor sortware only to run the plug-ins over a network other then the Receptor hardware. If not, what are the reasons behind the decision?
Please dont bite me.

Probably because they don't want to spend all the resources it would take to support and troubleshoot every different PC/Mac users configuration. They sell the device as a unit so when an issue comes up it's either user error (likely) or a bug they can fix across the board for all Receptor owners.
I certainly don't blame them for their decision.

I think it's more to do with the hardware inside receptor. The OS is written specifically for that i assume, therefore i wont have things like drivers for anything but the hardware it runs on. Maybe i'm well off the mark though?

The answer is this: Its a little bit of everything. What people tend to miss about the whole idea of Receptor is that fact that all the components in the product have been designed to work together is why it is such a cool concept and why it is such a satsifying experience.
Once it becomes just a piece of host software, then you're back to the DIY school of music making, and personally, I despise spending my free time trying to get my computer to behave... I'd rather spend that time making music.
And with several team members having "been there done that" developing sequencers at Passport and OpCode, I think that everyone here dreads the thought of general computer system support of complex software. Its really a nightmare, and I don't know if you've tried getting support from any software company recently but it is not a pretty sight. I spent 30 minutes on hold the other day trying to get one simple answer about some software the other day, and finally gave up. How fun is that? Yuck.
Of course we'd never say never to something in the future, but for now, we have our hands full trying to make Receptor the best platform in the world for running VST plug-ins, and that is a plenty big challenge in and of itself!
Good question though!
