Got the official word:
The Big Ben does send WC through all of its I/O, including S/PDIF.
The format conversion is actually a extra benefit that's included.

Hi there,
I just got my Receptor and I must say, I'm impressed! However, I can't get UniWire to work. The plugin loads but then says "No Receptors found on the network". Well, let me get to the necessary details then:
- the computer runs under W2K, SP 4
- I'm using Cubase SX 3.1 as a host
- Receptor is mounted properly (manual TCP/IP settings) and the remote control works just fine. But I have to type in Receptor's name each time, don't know if that's normal. The device will NOT show in the remote's drop down list.
- I tried renaming Receptor, and I also tried assigning the device to different workgroups. This basically works, but the plugin still refuses to see Receptor.
Ideas anyone?
Many thanks in advance,
Kai

What is the IP address and net mask of your Receptor and what is the IP address of your computer? Do you use a crossover cable? Do you have a router, switch, or hub?

It should work. Could you try rebooting your Receptor and your computer. Try first the Receptor, the computer second, then switch.
If it still does not work, you will have to wait for the next beta release, which allows you to enter the IP manually.

Hi Dan and gang, I'm shopping for a new notebook and will use my Receptor via Uniwire and SPDIF sync as my sole audio interface. My host, Ableton Live 5,will soon be offering multicore support in ver. 6. I know it was mentioned in another thread but could I please get a more definitive answer as to using Uniwire in a multicore processor environment and the 'even/odd instrument' workaround. Or do I have to just buy single core?
Thanx,
Jeff

Am I understanding correctly- if you want to use receptor with Uniwire to replace audio VST effects, you'll have to use an additional SPDIF sync mechanism? (i.e. I might have 5 tracks of guitar in Tracktion, each with VST audio effects for each one. I'm thinking about buying a receptor and offloading the VST processing to it. Do I have it correct?)

You need the SPDIF sync only if you plan on using Receptor's sound card. If both your computer sound card and the Receptor sound card are active, they need to be synchronized, and that is possible only via an S/PDIF connection.
If you want to use your computer's sound card only, and have Receptor be a VST "accelerator," then you can turn the receptor audio card off, and you don't need S/PDIF.
Another way would be to use just the Receptor audio card for output and ignore your computer's audio card. In this case (both audio cards are active and there is no S/PDIF), you send MIDI over Ethernet to Receptor and Receptor's audio output will be fine.
