Damn - no freeze. Otherwise I'd have gone for this - Samp has the best freeze in any host.

Surely you can use your previous app afterwards, but it will be difficult to sale because of a missing manual page or such...
I just want to add which maybe hasn't been mentioned yet: I (naturally) use sam8pro for tracking, sequencing & mixdown my band stuff. My colleagues used to work with other apps, historically. Surely, I can't force them to buy a 'big' sam version just because they want to jam down a few ideas (well, the guys are no techies and have no clue what 70% of the app is all about, but that's another story
Also, I am not forced to go on stage with my 'big version' (which I do, with the risk of losing the dongle included). A lean SE installation on a laptop will do just fine.
I did a lot of outdoor audio jobs in my former life. Could have been much easier with a thing like sam SE...
As time goes by, I'm sure many people will come up with numerous possibilities to use such a temptating offer for whatever task...

Hi sascha, here is the strange point for me, also read in a french forum:
-magix ms: as many inserts as you need>>sse: 2
-sse2 8 vsti>>mms: no vsti
-mms 4 aux sends>>sse 2 aux sends
-mms freeze>>sse no freeze
-mms elastic audio>>not on sse.
-sse control surface (even if mackie/logic/hui only is a bit strange)>>mms no control surface
-sse automation>>mms no plug in automation
magix now have two 49€ products with differents features and differents limitations. rather strange.

Well, if you look at MusicStudio, its AudioStudio is bundled with a small version of Logic which explains why AS has got no VSTi support. MS is aimed at another market: customers who want the most 'bang for the bucks' (I admit the emagic deal is a historical thing as we didn't have such midi capabilities for a long time). The small Logic version has even synths built in that were never released in 'official' Emagic versions or at a later date...
Sam SE is more aimed at the 'pro level entry' customer who may wish to upgrade to classic or professional in the future but already needs a good audio + midi sequencer (in one application, with the whole samplitude workflow included). Switching applications (with having lots of stuff on the disk) might be okay for the bedroom studio, but as I said, being able to rely on project integrity and compatibility might be a strong argument for choosing SE.
I'm no product / sales manager, but I can imagine that SE would cost a lot more if we had included all stuff from the AudioStudio + the Sam stuff that's already in there because of the concurrency with existing samplitude versions.

I m agree with you, on the oether side it's strange to have two products in the same price range, one having so much features but almost unusable (due to switching between two softs, and also to some UI problems (wow hard to go to the inserts in mms), and the other being nice and streamlined, perfectly integrated in the sam suite, but having such basic limitation the bedroom toy don't have (2 inserts per track!!).

My guess is Magix may make things clearer in future. I think personally as there is no upgrade path from Magix Music Maker or Magix Music Studio at the moment, this gives the impression that Magix may drop MMM & MMS (unlikely I think, but not impossible).
Magix could easily have announced that effective immediately all Magix products or MMM & MMS at least will now provide an upgrade path to their other higher end products including SE. It is a bit confusing now feature wise, but maybe not if MMM & MMS are dropped. Seems unlikely though.
SE still looks a good deal if upgrading to other Samp versions is important.

nonono - you misunderstood me - I just meant that many here probably have at least one other host which qualifies for the crossgrade...

Is Samplitude good enough as the only audio editor on a pc ?

Some would say better than anything else! There are many superb audio editors out there. Some cost hundreds of pounds others are completely free like Audacity. Magix offers quite a variety of products but if CD and DVD burning is important to you give SE a miss as it does not have it. But a similar priced product called Magix Audio Cleaning Lab (£29.99) is superb for audio editing, CD and DVD burning but has no upgrade path like SE.sinkmusic wrote:Is Samplitude good enough as the only audio editor on a pc ?
