I hope Muse is gonna have the answer on this one...with a Receptor 2(XL )?

We wait and see...

Post

This could get interesting :)
I bet they're both in Germany this month.
Anybody going? Care to report?

Receptor has a lot of support at plugorama and from all the plugin vendors. This takes a lot of work, and I bet would be difficult for another vendor to catch up.

As far as throwing around hardware specs, I care much what's inside as long as I can just plug in and play the thing. And it's compatible with plug-ins I want to use.

Hmm, but wait - isn't it a tweaked PC in some manner?
I mean, is someone (who knows how to tweak) able to push a PC system to the spec. proclaimed by the Expandium guys? I think, yes. :nutter:

I was rethinking my last post: For that price tag one really has to think whether to build a spec. from the scratch or to buy a system like that. Hmmm... :nutter:

Since the Expandium is builded around a slimmed down Windows XP, probably all vst's will work, just like on any computer. (it has P4 duo-core!)
So no supported/ unsupported debacle anymore!

And what about the name Expandium?
Expandable probably, so if there is a new processor coming out, just replace and you're up to date again! So it's a good future-proof investment, without getting dated to quick ...

Wonder how expandable the RAM Memory will be.

Looks like it offers a RAID option. :)

But why would they advertised "Tweaked XP Pro"? :?

Keep in mind that this is just one guy. I'm sure he is very talented and capable, but right now it looks like he is alone:

Believe it or not, virtually EVERY company in this business is just one or two highly creative people.

This is true in most creative fields. Professional Video was moved from hugely expensive special purpose boxes to the PC Desktop by the initiative of one guy and the genius of another, Steve Bress... and, now everyone uses PC or Mac based desktop video.

Creativity isn't shared equally among the masses and large corporations rarely take the risks or move fast enough to truly innovate in a creative industry. I always mourn when I see large corporations like Yamaha and Sony take over smaller operations like Steinberg and Vegas. It rarely bodes well for the users.

Overture, the notation software, is the work of just one man. But, his latest incarnation, Overture 4.0, is drawing converts from Finale and Sibelius like bees to honey. It's a sweet product! I'll take a one or two person company over a many person company any day.

I'm thinking that the people at MUSE are the highly creative ones...-they- invented this product a few YEARS ago, didn't they??? Building a computer based on Windows XP for audio hardly seems innovative. It may be a great product, that remains to be seen...but it is just a reinvented wheel (with stickier tires and lighter rims).

That's cool to hear...i tried Overture years ago when cakewalk owned it and WOW, did it bite hard. I remember several times, installing it because i needed professional scoring software, and then uninstalling it after fighting with it for hours to do what i wanted it to do.

AFTERTHOUGHT: perhaps the Overture you're talking about is different software.

Overture 4.0 is the latest incarnation of the old Cakewalk version. But, it's a radically different animal these days. It's extremely easy to use; but, it's added direct VST support, automatic playback of score articulations and expressions, etc. and MusicXML Import support. As a result the LE version is being bundled by more and more sample packages.

One of the problems the developer had is that it was difficult for him to fill people in on all the new features while working hard to add new features. So, a young man has joined him in providing new documentation and providing support on the GenieSoft forums.
