FXpansion DR-008 really really really does not like to be moved around.

Easiest to uninstall it & reinstall it, but I love it nonetheless :D

Don't get me started about GPO!

I move wusik dlls and folder around all the time. You can move the dlls freely, and if you move the Wusikstation DATA folder wusik just asks for the new location next time you load it.
Not for me using Orion. If the DLL is moved it won't load.

Oh I see, I use eXT and have no problems... so it's a host-specific issue (not necessarily Orion's fault but Orion related).
The mind boggles.

Have you told Orion the new location of the plug ? It won't find it I guess if you don't tell it were to look in the preferences.

Move it? All one has to do to enter into that nightmare mode is install the samples to a disk other than the drive where the plug itself is installed! This was significantly improved by a patch update to the original GPO (or was it the stupid NI player?). But it's still obnoxious.

Nothing ever moves out of the VST Instruments folder that holds all synths. I'm pretty organised (read anal ha ha) with files and folders.

Ok. The primary problem I have is that I bought a new computer and GPO is located at another drive now. So when opening all old songs (the first time) I have to go to hell and back (ok, extremely exaggerated ) before being able to edit, listen etc.

I don't get it. Where do you move it so that Orion does not find it if you never move anything around ?

Do you mean moving it within the VST Instruments folder maybe ?

In that case a rescan of the plugs by Orion should find it I guess.

Only if it can actually find the skins, which it can't if you don't move the skins directory along with the dll (and relying on files other than the dll itself is one of the things mentioned in the original post, so it does belong on the list). If you do, though, there should be no more problems (other than the presets, which are also a separate file)... if it ever misbehaves despite these files being in the right place, I'd like to know.

I don't even use Oatmeal's skins. I like the way it looks.
I'm not implying something is wrong with these plug-ins.

The idea is that some of us have, well, a million free VSTs.
I literally use every instrument and effect I own.

When you have even just a hundred plug-ins and didn't think to organize them
prior ro installing them all it becomes a nightmare to reorganize them in any
way.

So if you grab a pile of .dlls and move them around they become disassociated
with their .dat or whatever. With a list you can look to see what you need
to do to work around this without the hours it would take otherwise.

If people work together to compile what they know then each individual doesn't
have to repeat the same mindless work over and over.

That's sort of the idea behind sharing information on a computer-music
message board.
