Ditto on waiting a while. But first, they gotta send me the offer

I am kinda excited about the new version, because making ACID more VST-friendly will make a huge difference to my workflow. Perhaps it's lack of expertise, or maybe I need to upgrade to the Producer edition, but I've not become a huge fan of FL Studio. :(

I'd be interested in hearing about (a) how well the VSTi and MIDI issues have been handled in 6, from users' POV, and anything about control of VST effects on individual tracks: envelopes and all that.

still no option to NOT install the media manager at installation time .
what a bunch of morons ...
EDIT: at least deinstallation works flawless afterwards.

You know what bothers me about the Media Manager -- aside from the way it slows down an incredibly slowloading program even further? :-o

It's the possibility of two-way traffic to Sony, and their snooping on loop folders. I must confess I've bought the odd one or two grotesquely overpriced collections (notably Drums From The Big Room) on eBay, with the vague idea of totally mangling the beats for other purposes, maybe. At $45, Big Room is a so-so deal, at $150, it's crazy. As it stands, I haven't; but I don't need some root kit spyware ratting me out, or telling Sony that there are waaaay better collections in my folders, either.

I was awaiting this release with great hope.
I would say it improved a lot since the very first release of Acid 5, which bluescreened my system every time I tried to load it. Now this version didn't take my whole system down, it crashed cleanly when it crashed. So it is improving  :hihi:

Even with Quicktime 7 (Pro) you can still download the stand-alone installer. It's kept up to date. I don't have iTunes installed here. It takes your reg code just fine.

Funky... The media manager no longer has the same slowdown effect, not even close.

And if you don't use it, it's just as simple to uninstall. If anyone does want rid of it, remove the mysql part first then the media manager...voila, no more need to bitch like a girly :) :P

I think IMHO the engine is not as smooth as few other real time hosts just yet (Live5, Podium, Project 5V.2) ACID 6 will stutter when adding FX or instruments. I am using a very beefy system as well.

I think the media manager is really cool and I can see how it can be of great use. I could not get Live Slice to work at all. Just a noisy buzz instead. Also ACID 6 kept disabling my midi input settings. That seemed very erratic. I may look at it again after a patch or two. :|

The interface is nice and clean, very easy to work with, but the time stretching is in my opinion not quite as effective as Live5. Just my opinion. But perfectly adequate for getting a particular job done.

I think the Kontakt + ACID 6 combo is a very good one. I have not tried that combo, I don't think Kontakt is included in the demo (maybe I missed it).

I think ACID 6 can be alot of fun but I think it was a bit too easy to crash it when saving a project during playback or just generally doing something too fast. Maybe Sony's first patch will even things out. Just my experience anyway.

Kontact is in the boxed version or as a free disk for the d/l. Its just down to size, along with the content.

if you don't want to install the media manager.. just hit "cancel" when it says it's begining to install it. .Net isn't going to kill you either... As more apps with definately require it...

They've done a lot of work on it... kinda impressed thus far,

Yeah, to me felt more like an early beta than a full on release. Not wise to make your customers pay for testing a beta, but that's just my opinion.

obviously no-one from Sony is reading this, but f**k it they want $229 from me to upgrade in the UK. I'll give that a miss I think...

[edit] my mistake, that's the deal for an older version of Acid I used to have.. :?

I have to admit, and maybe it's my own incompetence, but not once have i used a piece of software that hasn't glitched or acted erronously at some time or another. I always seem to find some combination of settings that will set it on fire. I wishwishwishwishwishwish i had the ability to run all my software 100% trouble free like a lot of people seem to do. :(

I've found ACID 6 is causing no problems on my PC. The new features seem to work without a hitch and my ACID 5 projects load fine. The midi implimentation is very intuitive IMO. Multiple clips on one track are very useful. Synth automation seems to work ok. The gui is easy to work with and retains the ACID feel.

Media manager is easy to switch off but is very useful for cataloging files if you need that option.

If you use ACID a lot then v6 is a fantastic upgrade. I don't need to use Sonar at all now. Those who are thinking of switching can use the fully functioning demo for 30 days. Not a dongle in sight!
