Works when playback in realtime, but unfortunately it has glitches when rendering with it.
Aw...no way? Didn't think to test that myself :x

install Acid.. when it's finished, and the dialog changes to let you know that it's installing the media manager... just hit cancel. Now load up Acid... it'll say that the media manager is unavailable... then you can go into the prefs and simply turn it off.. that way you won't get that message any longer.

When I installed the Demo, it was in two subparts. The first part says that Acid installed fine. Then it asks to install Media Manager. I hit Next, and then as soon as possible, I hit cancel to stop the installation of Media Manager. Then upon first run, I get an error message that I have no rights to Media Manager...no big deal. I go into the prefs and I uncheck the Media Manager, and I'm good to go. This won't harm your Acid install one bit.

I have 2 VST folders, one for VSTi, the other to VSTfx.
Acid only is able to scan the VSTi. I'm sure i'm doing something not well, but i have the feelling that the demo is going to be demoed till it stops.
it's amazing to browse MIDI drum tracks with it, move things around untill it begins to be just fine.

Stag im sure you'll be glad when I say RTFM. There are multiple folders available in prefs. Hope this helps.

If you don't install the manager can you get away with not installing NET too? (whatever NET is)

That's a good question...but sadly i wont be able to find out as i have other apps that depend on the .net framework. For all the space it takes up, and the fact it doesn't interfere with anything... (don't quote me on this, but afaik it doesn't install any services that run when you AREN'T running .net reliant apps.) All in all it's pretty benign and i genuinely can't recall ever getting any errors in relation to it.

What is it then - something like VBRuntime?

Post

oooh - i've just spent some time messing around with the demo.

This is a VERY good sequencer - it's just two years too late, i've already spent all my hard earned money (and time) on Cubase. Now if they had only come out with this monster straight after version 3, i would have undoubtably been a proud owner.
eh?

To be compeltely honest, i don't know myself  I don't even really know what DirectX is other than i need it  Here's some info though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework Man, what doesn't wikipaedia have information on? :P

just incase you do try it, do NOT install version 2.0. It's 1.1 that acid (and most apps that use .net) depend on.

Post

I know why I never bothered with this up till now - just looking at this it's too much hassle - there's a NET 1.1 then a service pack for it then an ASP service pack for 1.1 service pack 1, then V2 but I'm not supposed to use that :? MSTwats

DirectX is an API -- Application Programming Interface -- that allows XP to talk to your hardware, especially your expansion hardware, in generalities not too far off from deep code. Hardware that's compatible with DirectX is therefore much likelier to work first time when it's plugged in. And it saves software companies from having to program specific versions of their software for, e.g., Creative, Hercules, Turtle Beach, and other audio cards. Back in the Bad Old Days, programs sometimes came with different versions for each graphics card -- look at Quake, for instance.

Yep, this should of been Acid v5. Still will upgrade for the 5.1 mixing and other goodies that Acid is good at (running in Rewire)

This one i got rigth, as on any app first i set it up on preferences, settings or whatever.
Anyway Acid as reached a level of complexity where RTFM is mandatory.
well, i set the folder but uppon scanning it quits :help: what can i say more?

This cannot be emphasized enough. Sound Forge absolutely, categorically refused to work properly with 2.0, and consistantly demanded 1.1 of .NET Framework at launch. The Sony software is definitely locked into something about 1.1 that is different than 2.0.
