Does luna support a midi tool such as SONICBYTES ERA?
Not yet. Midi Plugins are on the whishlist, and i think it must get a high priority.
Is there a way to monitor audio through Luna (hear what you record while recording)?
Not yet, but a realtime audio thru/process feature is high on the whishlist too!

guitarfrodo wrote:to DIGIT: the win98se note was just a let you know message since the readme file says Luna should work with it.
Indeed, Luna should have made it on win98se.

But i also noticed some other quirks, so the readme file will be updated, i.e. win98se not officially supported. Maybe maybe i find the time to tweak the quirks, but on the other hand: does it makes sense to invest the time in a past os..?

I wonder: How could your Luna setting files become read-only?

How many recent files? What number would be a good default?

4, 8, 10, ..?

can some one confirm this

1.start a new session
2.import any midi file.
3 create midi instruments or vst synth. assign them to track
4.save session.
5.close LUNA.
6.reopen session. There is no data.

But session opens fine and data is there if is created as sequence part and drawn in piano roll.

I also tried to keep midi file in the same folder where session is, but i did not work.
It does work, but there indeed is a problem: the composition containing the imported midi file is not properly selected. You could right-click (osx: control-click) the composer, and choose "select next composition".

In the next version, the last used composition will be properly selected!
Yes, right clicking 'select next composition' works. It didn't strike me at first.
Tools are tools, they don't produce anything...

hmm... i used winrar to unzip them. no tellin what that prog does to files. its funny that not all files were read only. but the config files were it seems.

i think 10 would be great, but i work on a lot of projects. i just find it easy to open them this way.

I've noticed sometimes that I cannot access any MIDI ports even though they are available on my computer, when editing my MIDI player (I only see "None"). A reboot seems to solve the problem. Perhaps that's a sound card issue or something?

Also, I had commented on how the "Close" button for the piano roll editor is placed in what I think is a very awkward position. Just to elaborate: trying to set the player back to the beginning by clicking on the time bar above the notes, right at the beginning of the song, is just the same place as the close button.

Thus, there seems to be no way to get back to the beginning of the song (except by holding down the rewind button). Actually, I think I would find a "back to beginning" button very useful, even more so than having a rewind button.

Regarding MIDI instrument settings: Thanks, pljones, I guess I hadn't really thought much about hooking up fancy MIDI hardware. But I think that also brings the point that probably a significant proportion of Luna's beginning users (e.g., new readers of Computer Music) are going to have only a MIDI sound card, or maybe a GM-capable keyboard. It might be worth helping them out a bit with some GM instrument settings or at least a hint as to how to change the instrument setting when associating a MIDI player to a part.

Thanks!

On OSX, a vst plugin can come in 2 formats: CFM, which is the format of the older OS9, and MachO, which is the format of osx itself.

CFM thus is an older format, most probably going to disappear.

Plugin developers should update their plugs.

Of course you could say: the host must be compatible with both, but how long before CFM to disappear..? Tell us Steve.

Were there any other programs open which could have "taken" the midi ports?

What about this possible new option: double-clicking the rewind button goes back to start of song?

You definitely got a point.

I'll think about it...
(though it won't be for 1.0)

Does anyone noticed that sometimes samples in audio tracks starts with visible click?
Very often I have to move start marker a bit to fix that. It's my own collection and maybe not everything is "fade in" correctly perfectly but it never happend on other applications.

Also it's still imposible to use Tassmann VSTi (it's a freeware Keys magazine edition), every time I try to edit Luna crashes on me.

I would be also easier to have names on audio tracks :)

Oh and what about Audio Units? Maybe VST is most still common format but I belive many OS X users have more AU now.

Best,
Piotr

Visible click? So do you mean not audible?

You can widen the tracks column by dragging the splitter to the right.

This gives you space for track names.

You can also right-click / control-click an audio part and edit its name.

AU plugins will be one of the options in the coming feature poll.
