Nor did I because I much prefer ACID's workflow. I've got Sonar 4 but will probably never need it now that I have ACID 6. That doesn't make Sonar crap though. I can't see how ACID is crap when it works so well for me and offers nearly all the features I had hoped for.stag wrote:That's cool, i for instance didn't even bother to try Sonar 5.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:sadly, thats all you need to realize acid is crap.Reverse Engineer wrote:I just love the people who installed it, ran it for five minutes then declared it to be a piece of crapStick to Garageband/ejay and you'll be fine my dears

well, I had a play around for a bit last night and I can say that:
1) it's bloody fiddly but I'm sure I'll get used to it
2) I cannot work out how to get Reaktor working in it.
3) I cannot seem to make it differentiate between two plugs on separate channels, i.e. playing midi keyboard plays both synths.
4) Learning a new host is like learning to walk again
5) It's time to RTFM...

I must tell you the truth, the only time ACID 6 crashed for me when it was running through the sector of my VST collection which was warezed (not in use anymore) and because I had formatted my computer, the registrations were there and telling me to reinstall the plugins (not doing).CypherOne wrote:oh and I had two crashes, both when I was working through the tabs on the Preferences menu...
Other than that, it really hasn't crashed.
I was quite disappointed with the MIDI though. I really wish that they had made better the main "Clip Properties" for MIDI dialog; maybe added some tools like an arpeggiator, etc. A bit like FL's. The in-line MIDI editing & drum roll are cool though
Overall, I'm quite happy with this release. It really is quite major and has transformed ACID into a VERY powerful MIDI tool. For those who say it crashed, I tell you that you guys are simply overloading it to the extreme and waiting for it to crash so you reaffirm your v5 prejudices. I tried to do that initially and failed.
And that's my $0.02

Very interesting post on V6. I used V 5 recently for a demo project and the mix achieved was subpar compared with my 'other' DAW (Cubase SX3). I'm not sure after reading all the posts here that V 6 will deliver the goods. I will try the demo however so I get to judge for myself.

So this solves any VSTi scanning issues?riley4reason wrote:I got it to work after the typical "Acid PRo VST folder crash" by installing this http://zacchino.free.fr/DummyPluginFolder.reg AFTER I installed AP6, Be sure and copy paste this file to c:\ then run install.... It worked for me!

Does this add something to the registry then? btw - I've just noticed a new app called Reaper on the news page - looks very like ACID and appears to have a lot of the same features and ergonomics but without the bloat or cost (except for some of the more advanced midi editing of the latest version)

Put the demo up last night. Man, it's still a slow loader on VSTs and Fx.
"You could go out for a bite." Does it get any better on future use? Currently, I can time it in minutes (4-5)
Update: I clocked it down to about 1 minute now (boot 5). Yes, I do have shitpiles of VSTi apps (80+). But I thought the 'Pro' might mean something?
I flushed SMM: I have something like 100GB of loops. It'd choke on them.

It seems Acid Pro is now caught up with the year 2004.

Maybe late 2004, yeah.riley4reason wrote:It seems Acid Pro is now caught up with the year 2004.
a. Do much more beta testing
b. Before you start designing ACID 7, gather a focus group of power users -- try here, among other places -- and listen to their needs and gripes very carefully
c. Remember that the 'Pro' label raises expectations, and meet them. It means 'professional' not 'prostate problem'
d. repeat (a) and (b) endlessly until happiness shines upon all
v.6 is better than 5. It's also fairly cheap (as an upgrade) and capable of some useful work. But is it a real omnipotent host? The jury's still out with me. Should it be a killer host? At this list price, you better f**king believe it!

True. I'm thinking that by September and v6c they may have this working nicely. I'm still going to buy it; ACID is one of my preferred platforms.
