I'm not saying anything about your intent - and now the playing field is quite even - I'm just saying the initial conditions were unfavorable to creating the desired outcome. When this thread was created, important information was left out.brok landers wrote:hey, come on, i was 4 hours away, then asap i posted that it was the artsacoustic reverb, posted the original wav and the preset ... what more do you want?
i explained that i thought it was clear that it is the aar, as i allways praised it very often here ...
Please don't take this as some kind of CSR franboy thing - I tried the demo until it expired, I was pretty impressed. But I also think AAR is at least as nice sounding, and cheaper. CSR's strength is more in it's versatility, IMHO.

1. There's the original file.
2. You can listen to it.
3. Now match it, or make it better.
How much more info can you possibly need?
It REALLY doesn't matter what reverbs or specific settings were used, if you know your plugs/hardware and how they perform.

hey mikem, my name is brok ...Mikem wrote:reg,
For those without AAR, maybe you could post a screenshot of your settings, so those who own CSR can at least have a ballpark idea of what settings contribute to your sound. If you want CSR to compete, similar parameters would be a great place to start.
And I think that should have been done at the outset--it wouldn't have changed the spirit of your inquiry. It just would have cut right to the point without all the speculation, etc.
"reg" is the shortcut of "regards" ...

Yes, I can hear the difference, but I'm pretty confident with a little more work I could match it or surpass it (but that's entirely a matter of taste of course). On the other hand, there seem to be people here that can't even get it right with their AAR and are asking you for the patch / settings... makes me wonder if I really want to spend those 200 bucks soon...brok landers wrote:what is it exactly?c_huelsbeck wrote:I don't want to spoil the party, but I just played with some plugins at my disposal and came up with this:

Yes I know it's not exactly the same, but very close and I only spend a couple of minutes and it uses free / SX standard plugins...
I don't meant to trash the AAR, it's on my list of future purchases, but it seems to me all a bit relative...
its nice ...
but in comparsion to my files i find it a bit too muddy/washy, destroying the harmonic content of the audiofile, musically i mean ...
also i found it a bit poor in the high frequencies of the tail ...
this is the "open" thingy i meant in posts before ... i allways instinctively would like to raise the roomwidth slider in your reverb ... that exactly is what only the aar provided to me the way i wanted it instantly ... dunno bout the csr, though ...
curiosity kills me ...
Here's what I did: I took the Roomworks that comes with SX and paired it with 2 free instances of Kjaerhus Chorus, one before the reverb and one after... plus tweaking of all the parameters of all the plugs...
Btw: I love the dreamy little sequence you recorded... would make an excellent Chillout track...

but i thought this wasnt about how well you know your plugs etc - but about good various reverbs sound
so having some idea of how parameters were set up should make it easier to reproduce or improve on

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Exactly! Somehow this turned into some kind of tweak competition, which wasn't the intent, I'm sure.ericj23 wrote:but i thought this wasnt about how well you know your plugs etc - but about good various reverbs sound

Quit slamming people who can't tweak as well as Brok. And let's all be grateful for those like Brok who are willing to share when they come up with something lovely.

c_huelsbeck-i thought it was the roomworks (which is also known as a freeware reverb called "ambience" by bram from smartelectronix
), but i was not sure cause the modulation ... nevertheless, it sounds better now with the high/mid content, but the "open-ness" i doubt you can reach with a chorus before a reverb (which is a common techique, they used to do this all the time in the 80's) ...
it's a very different result when the delays in a reverb are actually modulated with a given algorithm ...
also the frequency behaviour of a reverb can hardly be adjusted by an eq ... so there will be no choice, if one wants to reach up to the big ones, the reverb itself has to provide a certain quality which you can't dial up with other units like eq or a chorus ... nevertheless, for a buildt in reverb this sounds not too bad at all ... as you said, all a matter of opinion ...
besides that ericj23 is right to a certain degree ...
to all: ain't there somebody who can come up with some csr files for comparing?

of course, makes only sense if one has the aar ... i thought mikem has it?
he could've used the preset then (stupid me)

I don't, but I may be getting it now! I wanted the preset available as an added incentive for getting it.brok landers wrote:of course, makes only sense if one has the aar ... i thought mikem has it?

I do have CSR, though. Can't promise I'll be the one who uses your screenshot as guidance for a tweaking, though. I've spent VERY little time with CSR so far, and I don't remember creating anything as lush as what you've done with AAR. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else can come close, though.
Thanks again for sharing, BROK.
