it was a mistake for sure. the outages do real damage to the community that once thrived there. i know i know i know. it's just an internet forum. i'm personally longing for a place to engage in that again. i really liked what i was seeing in this thread along those lines. getting back to "life" now. :) :-o

I don't think anyone here begrudges TDC...or anyone for that matter...of having a life. But like it or not, his choice of priorities (i.e. ignoring OSXA to focus on other things) is the cause of everyone's discontent. And certainly that's the reason we've now gone on for 3 or 4 pages discussing the possibility of launching a new forum.

There's obviously a demand for a music and audio venue that speaks to the exclusive needs of the Mac user. OSXA used to be such a place. But between its extended MIA periods and TDC's decision to take it cross-platform, any discussions about launching a replacement forum are completely justified IMHO.

I can guarantee that what tdc is doing in England is infinitely more important than any web forum or recording issue there is. Is it inconvenient, yeah, but again, some things are just more important.

Besides I would like a forum where sven and fucanay felt welcome. Being of the mind that demands freedom over protection. :?

I think some people are taking this the wrong way, and some are presenting it the wrong way. I'm sure what he's doing is important and it doesn't matter if it isn't. he simply doesn't have time, he doesn't have to explain himself to me. I don't begrudge him in the slightest for having other things to do. I wouldn't have time either and could never do it.

but I would let someone else take over who had the time and resources to take care of it properly. I think that is the source of frustration for many of the fans of the osxa community (among other things).

anon wrote:Hey everyone, I have spoken to tdc, and he asked me to apologize for the delay, it has been unavoidable, the new site is still coming, but just for now he is going to temporarily put the old site on the new server, this should be done in the next 30-hr's, so lets just wait a bit longer and relax, and hopefully we will all be together again in our favorite place, tdc is doing all this whilst traveling around the world, he is currently in england, so it's not been an easy thing.
.. this proves once more that i for one don't want a new or old forum again that is run by tdc.
he's too busy with other stuff, and that's okay.
i want a new one, done by someone who cares for it ..

the longer this threads gets the more annoyed i am.

I suggest people sign up at osxrecording.com and ask him to streamline the site as it's recently gotten slow with so much stuff on the page.

the guy did create it when osxa was down before and it's already there, no need to build a new one.

I've said it before but it makes sense to me.

.. hmm. personally i don't like the layout of the forums. sure, this could be changed, though ..
what i would really want to avoid is (even though that may sounds a bit dramatic right now .. :hihi:)
that we all go back to the old osxaudio-forums once tdc really put them up again.
this is not against tdc personally, but i fear that we'll see the same stuff happening again and again, only to find us here in a kvr-thread again discussing another loss of osxa.

puhh .. i'm having a hangover, and i think you can now call me mister supermoaner .. :hihi:

the site changes all the time. at first it was mostly just forums but since they didn't do a lot of traffic I think that's why he put up all the other stuff.

Sheesh!! Didn't I acknowledge this in my prior post? Let the guy have his life. Just don't expect us to sit around and twiddle our thumbs waiting for him to find the time to devote to something which is apparently little more than a pet project!

All this talk, checking to see if the BBL is up or not every hour. I can't take it anymore. I've decided to take matters into my own hands. You can too. Check it out.

Sorry I haven't been back here in a few days. The school semester is almost over and my future mother-in-law just moved in with us for a while. I can build a site on Friday or Saturday if you want, and I'm not secretive or control hungry, so I'd be willing to take help from those that have offered.

As far as CMS systems go, my favorite is Drupal. Check out http://drupal.org for more info. I am currently building a site for our yacht club with this software and you can see the results at http://lcyc.info. It includes a forum system, but it is not quite as extensive as phpBB. However, there is a module to integrate phpBB into Drupal and have them share user logins. Drupal would be great for user-added content, news, books (hierarchically-organized info pages), etc. Any page can have comments attached and there is an extensive taxonomy (keywords) system that makes creation of dynamic content pages easy. I don't have time to go into detail right now, but check out those sites. I can also integrate Gallery ( http://gallery.menalto.com ) and have an incredible image library built-in. Check out the gallery on the lcyc site for an example. We have over 1100 images. (Our boat is sail number 68, Tumbleweed 2.0, if you are interested.)

Anyway, let me know your thoughts on Drupal, phpBB and Gallery.

Cheers,

jason

I'm with Dreamhost and I get 1064 GB, which grows by 8 GB a week. What do you think?
