Ok, you geeks read up on this integration stuff: http://drupal.org/node/44977 and http://drupal.org/node/32818 so I can make sure to get it working from the beginning. I want to do Drupal and phpBB, I think. phpBB is very strong and using Drupal means we can do blogs, syndication, faqs, news and more without me acting as a funnel for all content.

Actually, before I go crazy, I would like an opinion on what folks think about the built-in Drupal forums vs. phpBB.
Thanks,

I don't know much about forum code, so I'm not that good with helping set things up, sorry......
Another drag about BBL being down is that I'm planning a trip to SF next week, and was looking forward to seeing dokashuko's studio, maybe seeing some SF folks in person.... no big deal, I'm seeing a friend I haven't seen in about 12 years so....

Another missed deadline, unsurprisingly...anon wrote:Hey everyone, I have spoken to tdc, and he asked me to apologize for the delay, it has been unavoidable, the new site is still coming, but just for now he is going to temporarily put the old site on the new server, this should be done in the next 30-hr's, so lets just wait a bit longer and relax, and hopefully we will all be together again in our favorite place, tdc is doing all this whilst traveling around the world, he is currently in england, so it's not been an easy thing.

In my experience, any kind of additional configuration or hacking makes web applications really difficult to maintain. I have not tried Drupal but I think it would be best to try out the built-in forums first. As long as Drupal supports multiple forums, threads and email notifications, we can all adapt to a different user interface.hyerstay wrote:Actually, before I go crazy, I would like an opinion on what folks think about the built-in Drupal forums vs. phpBB.

errm.. is the UK the back of beyond LOL
i think there will be a new dedicated osxaudio site up and running before we see the old one back .. shame as the format really worked.
the apple pro audio site isn't really an answer either .. you can tell by the tiny post counts there that the format is just not popular..

I vote we move forward w/ the new osxaudio.org forum / news site / blog. As far as forum code? I don't really know much but are we sure we don't want to make it too custom so anyone that understands web design could possible help maintain the site.
I think we can move forward without feeling too guilty because this would be an OSX Audio Only Forum. I will still be visiting BBL no mater what. However, I don't really want people questioning my platform choice. As it is, with Intel macs being available, we might get the "dump the PPC G5 and get a dual core for better performance." occationaly.
I think BBL should of asked us our opinion on updating the forum, site, etc. based on us OSX Audio people made it what it was. Also, the site supporters (which I wasn't but it was on my 2006 goal list), which where Apple OSX Audio people who paid for his newest server. Don't they have an opinion on the future of their donations? Also, I think there need to be 2-3 people in charge of maintaining the site... NO ONE PERSON THAT HAS A FULL TIME GIG ALREADY CAN RUN A VERY LARGE SIDE PROJECT AS OSXAUDIO.COM / BIGBLUELOUNGE.COM.
I'm not mad at all... I'm not pointing fingers at the osxaudio/bbl owner because he really doesn't owe me anything and I'll still visit his new site when it does finally go back up... I'm just a little disapointed...

Well, I'm going to setup a new site, but I think I should hold off on deployment since the old site is back. I was willing to help fill the void, but I don't want to split the community. Any thoughts?

Hyerstay, I think that's right. I know some people don't want to go back, but I want to see what's going to happen.
On the other hand, I really don't think the community would be split. It would be doubled. I'm sure many of us would visit both.
