Hello all! :)
I'm considering buying an EZ-EG to fulfill my dream, but I'd like to just double-check to be sure it can do what I want.

I use FLStudio 4 and a VST (Triforce) which emulates the NES sound chip, so I can turn my MIDI's into NES songs. FLStudio allows me to use my PC typing keyboard to input MIDI notes in real-time, and the VST's effect is applied in real-time. So I'd like to plug the EZ-EG's midi out into my pc and apply the VST effect on the FLStudio track receiving its input. That way, I could play Nintendo-esque sounds "live" (in real-time). So basically, will the EZ-EG allow me to do that? Can I just send its MIDI signal into my PC and let my PC determine its sound?

And if so, I would just need to replace my built-in sucky sound card with one that has a MIDI-in port, and connect my EZ-EG to it via a MIDI 13-pin cable?

Thanks for the helping hand. It just sounds too good to be true!

Yes, you can do just this.

Make sure you check out one of the script apps mentioned here, though, which does handy things such as combining all the strings to one MIDI channel. A definite must-have. (and fortunately free!)

I enjoy playing little 8-bit sounding things with triangle and pulse waves too. Maybe I'll put up a little improv if I find time. ;)

Excellent!! I'll definitely buy one and enjoy myself! :D And I'll download some apps also, this page is bookmarked :).

I sent an 8-Bit-style song of mine on YouSendIt. You might want to check it out at http://download.yousendit.com/D5B5029353F36714 (http://download.yousendit.com/D5B5029353F36714). (I'm not too sure how yousendit functions, it's the second time I use it, so let me know if there's a problem for listening to the file).

Ahh, the whiff of NES is in the air... :hihi:

The display on my EZ-AG keeps showing what looks like "S n G" or "5 n G".

Has anyone else had this? Does it just mean the batteries are low?

Thanks for any help.

"Song" mode?

Can't say as I remember seeing that, but my EZ has been in the box since I packed it to move 4-5 months ago!

Just ordered mine with my tax refund! Can't wait for it to arrive :) What are the latest firmwares, etc? And is there an all-encompassing comprehensive thread pointing to tips/tricks besides this mamoth one? Perhaps a resource-only thread with links/howtos/etc?

TIA!

I've found Midix very useful (thanks Marc). You can find it here:http://www.mypage.bluewin.ch/ncplus/midi_index.html

It's very handy for all sorts of things, for example transposing, modifying velocity, splitting the fretboard so that you can trigger 2 vsts at once. I've had great fun using my EZAG with Oatmeal.

I'd love to be able to develop something like Midix in C#,but am having trouble getting started.

Alan have you tried scripting with MIDIOx? It's quite simple for the most part and is exposed via COM/Ole/whatever the heck it is :) I think it's very very powerful way to do it even if it requires MIDIOx, I don't mind such a requirement so anything based on MIDIOx is automatically something I check out.

MIDIX looks nifty. I'll play with it when I get my EZEG this week. How decent are the docs and such that come with EZ-xG guitars? Pretty good?

Is there a way to use a vibrato with the AG? I think it looks much cooler than the EG, and it's a hundred bucks less expensive to boot. But I really need the vibrato in my playing. I've seen some talk about "using a joystick", but how does that work? Is there a way to have vibrato by software, or do I have to buy a MIDI pedal?

Can't wait to get my mits on it and to try it with
the scripts you guys have been writing. In the meantime I've been creating environments in
Chainer and Bidule for live and studio use.
Glad to be in the club!

Cheers......CL
What reasons did you choose EG over AG?

Post

Don't know if anyone's come across this problem with the EZ-AG. When playing any midi synth through Cubase (VST instruments etc.) The notes get "stuck" i.e. once the note is played, it sustains forever. This problem also happens with Reason. Any idea's?

Post

Is there a way to make it so that I must hit the string to sound the note? I want to disable all "keyboard" like behavior unless I strike a string..

Post

You can if you use Midix.

You have options (for example) to set the Fret Down Action to "none". You have to remember though that you can't "Hammer-On" with this setting.

Hope that helps.
