I better buy Z2 ASAP before the pre-order offer expires!!!

Is there a way to import/export wavesets or we can only copy/paste them?

Thank you for taking care of the uhe_data folder in the Windows installer. Did you choose to use the registry?

U-he,
As you know, we all love your synth (I'm even planning to use it for several demos in my DSP class) so much that we don't want you to respond to any of posts...so please don't read mine any farther :hihi:

If you're still reading anyway, please don't omit any of your creations (FilterFM) because of high CPU load. What's marginal on today's computers may be screaming once AMD starts embedding multiple FPU's on their cores in few months! After coding it, how could you manage not to release it to your hoard of salivating fans?

----Thanks for the update Urs, we pc users just wanted to know all is well, and Z2 is almost done :)

Hey,

Jeff, the good thing about my Win efforts is, there's no difference in the state between Mac and Win development anymore. I'm in the comfortable position to say, when I have one version, i.e. AU, VST Mac and VST Win are just a recompile.

ulaz, the new "module presets" are gonna be your friend. I found that just saving a waveform doesn't really do it. Instead you can save/load the whole oscillator thing including OscFX and modulation ranges. Which is better than just waveforms, because in most cases these things are all related. This will be available for oscillators, MSEGs, arpeggiator and reverb (even though the reverb has only few parameters, it's a bit esoteric to some, so it'd be good to have several presets for different artificial rooms).

The Win installer and final structure is not yet set in stone. I guess there'll still be the C:\Program Files\u-he\ location, but you'll be able to set aliases/links to other locations. I don't think it will require to touch the Registry.

jcsquire1, thanks man! - I would agree with you, if only I could. I could post an mp3 demoing the new filter and everybody would say... man, that's gorgeous! - But then, when they try to run this on their machine, playing a simple chord would break the cpu. It'd be a false promise...

I merely consider the new filter a playground for experiments. I'm sure the experience can be used to build better performing filters with nearly the same sonical properties. But I don't want to waste much time on this now, I'd rather postpone its inclusion to a 2.x update.

Cheers,

;) Urs

Hey Urs, I didn't read about the audio input, is that still in for 2.0?

Well, yeah, hmmm... the really best way would be something that I've planned for later this year where a VST synth and a VST effect could share resources. Thus I'd prefer to postpone it till 2.x rather than doing the work twice...

That's cool, but I didn't think it was such a big deal since so many vsti have audio inputs?

Well, the VST specs are a bit inconsistent in that matter. While in AU world there's no problem to have an instrument with input, in VST world you'll hardly find a host that sends audio to an instrument.

What developers do is adding a VST version of their VSTi. It's probably 99.9% the same code, so it's pretty much a block of redundant memory with no chance to communicate between an instance of the VST and an instance of the otherwise identical VSTi (unless one uses weird hacks...). My intention is to *share* this memory across the VST and the VSTi, so that preferences, copy/paste actions, MidiLearn etc. do work, regardless if using the VST or the VSTi or both. I simply want to avoid inconsistencies and redundancies here...

I think that doing it right involves a bit more than just a recompile as a VST effect... ;)

;) Urs

Urs, saving/loading oscillator modules sounds really great!

About the aliases/links to user defined folders/locations, I'm surprised that it seems to be a Windows specific request. IMHO I like the way Reaktor let the user set both the Factory and the User Content folders in the preferences. Anyway, I'm glad that you are not using the Registry.

I'm testing Z2 with energyXT and I noticed that sometimes, after adding/removing a modulator sorce to a module, a 3 notes arpeggiator is introduced and I need to reload Z2 to get rid of it. Is anybody else having this problem? I haven't noticed this problem using other VST in eXT.

Thanks for all your hard work keeping the Z2 Mac and Win development in sync.

That's demo mode, it's on purpose!

You could use a regular VST effect (in+out) instead of a VST instrument (out only) like Prosoniq do it with Magenta, orangevocoder etc. Most host programs can send MIDI to regular VST effects.

On MacOS X, the corresponding thing to a .dll is a bundle, which is directory with arbitrary number of files and subdirectories that appears to be a single file. Thus a lot of things can be hidden from the user. Also, MacOS X has standard locations for Presets & Preferences. It's all transparent and doesn't get into anyone's way, that's why there are no requests. My way of doing things on Windows is based on the intention to work with the same comfort ;)

Pre-order? Maybe I should too - I can't seem to find my email about the group buy (and can't remember the details or price from that just that I was a member seems like ages ago).

An email could help ;)

I am very interested by the concept but trial has shown me that the oscillator section is hard to manage.

There seems to be a lot of potential in it but it no fun trying to shape a sound in the osc section with the mouse.
