My benchmarker nerd alterego got the best out of me, and its curiosity won.

51 instances with 2048 sample buffer (my mixing setting)
37 instances with 128 sample buffer (my composing setting)

nothing surprising there.

Cubase SX3
AMD Athlon X2 +4400 (at 2.4ghz), RME HDSP soundcard.

not to mention denormal problems which still aplly to even the newest intel cpus...
for vst work amd give better performance. not even a doubt about that.
I agree. Ok, my CPU needs are modest (I could imagine using maybe 2 poshifopits in a real project!) so I'm fine with the performance, and this is thin&light laptop anyway.

But the denormal issues are a real PITA.

true.
I actually bought a centrino laptop(latest dothan processor) after reading on these forums they were not prone to denormal. the truth is nothing has changed in intel cpus architectiure to avoid denormals.
so u just gotta hope the developer of each plugin has taken care of this.

I have edirol FA-66 (firewire) and even when I change the latency nothing happens same cpu load same everything ?
Any idea why ?

Post

blame edirol drivers. Or maybe they are quite efficient on all buffer settings?
