Ok...
There are now some weeks i have Oatmeal in my VST folder, and here is the point where i am now.. :
As everybody (me the first), i enjoyed a lot Oatmeal : a huge bunch of features, nice sound, randomizer, fun, etc.
I played during hours using the randomizer, and.... never used Oatmeal in a track !
The relationship between graphics and sound is so complex (I never find the "basic" ADSR ! !), because of the synth is so huge and the skin soo little, and as there is no "classic" presets, i never think about using it in my projects...
On one hand, i was very enthusiast about the unconventionnal approach (no presets, soteric names, microscopic gui...), but now i realize that I often begin with basic presets to create my very own sounds, and the quite esoteric names of the randomizer stuff (even if it makes me laugh) never helps me to keep in mind how the preset sound !
The goal of my post is not (at all ! ! !) to be rude with Fuzzpilz or to say i don't like Oatmeal (because i DO like it !), but not knowing what i'm doing, or not remembering which preset to use makes me uncomfortable in integrazting Oatmeal in my projects.
So the goal is : woudl it be possible to include some banks made by user INTO Oatmeal (not to have to load 45697897 banks and browse the sounds....), with some "basics" sounds, in order to make an easier access to the full potential of the beast (apart from the randomizer) ??
Maybe that i'm 200% far away from the concept of Oatmeal, but the simple consideration of enjoying the synth alone and never finding him a place (or never knowing when/how/which) in my projects made me think that it was a little sad not to know how to handle it easily... ;)

Why not slowly build your own very simple beginners bank .fxb and load that one up every time you use Oatmeal? Start with the preset named "init" (the simplest in the default bank) and make one preset at a time....

It sounds to me like you are finding the size of the plugin a little intimidating. If you are just starting to learn vst synthesis then Oatmeal is way too big. I'd say start with the absolute simplest plugins you can find, like those from GTG maybe, and master the leanest basics first.

It's really hard to craft your own sound from a preset you like if you don't know what parameters you would need to change. A little time invested in MASTERING the basics should help you out quite a bit,..... if I understand you correctly.

heh ... that was almost the point of my post ... i did some alternative colour palettes for ezees EXCELLENT skin layout that havent yet seen the light of day ... i know hes pretty busy with other things (i dont think hell mind me saying some of them are sounding VERY cool) but i GUESS updated versions of his skins (maybe even with my colours) will see the light of day at some point ...

... but you never know ... if i find the time to learn oatmeals skin 'engine' ... a pHz skin or two might emerge at some point ...

(whether or not thats worth looking forward too is another matter ... )

slainte :hihi: rob

None of the skins have been updated for Oatmeal 36-1...

Sinkmusic, i understand your request, but why don't you make a user bank with basic presets ? You can find several very usable presets in the various banks in the package, that can be selected and put together in a new bank... It is better than nothing... There are some lead, pad, arp and keys presets which sound very good... Try them all...
Sorry if it is not enough.

(oops, my post comes after Debutante's one....)

A wonderful job on the Majken skin, but it is too small :bang: I am using 1024x768 resolution, it looks fine in 800x600 but who wants that? Could it just be resized to a bigger size?
Thanx.

I can use it perfectly fine at 1280x1024 on my 17" monitor. Am I just too used to everything being so small?

Post

I have an HP CRT 17" and I can definitely see everything, but to stay for a couple of hours staring at it is definitely not very easy on my eyes. If it just were 30-40% larger it'd be great.
I am no programmer, but is it that hard to have VSTs with resizable windows?

Just give-in to the force, Sleepy. That is such a "so last century attitude," and "so 20th Century," honestly. (Considering how much amazing vsti stuff is coming out in the last 6 months or so.) :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :D
