by the way Torben, I love the GUI! Extremely professional looking, I hope you adopt this look for future plugins. Not that our other plugs look crap, they were fine, but this GUI is definitely on another level

My god, sorry to annoy everyone in here, but MPL-1 is a dream! My mixes are already louder compared to professional mixes without distortion. I use MPL-1 on several groups, and then again over the whole mix.

One minor thing i'd like to suggest, the Gain's output range reaches from -5db to +5dB. When using it on a group, i'd like to set the output level down to -15db, this leaves me enough db for adjustments.
A simple example:

Track1: Bassdrum > Send1
Track2: Snaredrum > Send1
Track3: Hihats > Send1
Track4: Bass > Send 2
Track5: Strings > Send3

Send1: MPL-1 > Send 2
Send2: MPL-1 > Send 3
Send3: MPL-1

In this case, Send3 is the final mix. Now, i'd like to set both the output levels from MPL-1 used on Send 1 and Send 2 down to -15db (or lower), because send3 receives two limited signals. With the actual version, both signals send from send1 and send2, have a output level of -5db. Send3 receives therefore 2 inputs with -5db signals, which doesn't leave me much dynamic for adjustments.

I simply can lower the volume by using a volume effect after each send-track, but to have this feature in MPL-1 would be great!

I guess the reason for having an output-level from -5db to +5db in MPL-1 is because it was designed as a mastering tool and not as a track effect as i used it in my example above.

And before the usual retorts of use your ears to judge loudness comes in, this question is more academic!

Not to mention it would be wrong to do so, for many reasons. Ears judgement introduce way too many variables to be able to get consistent result; just as a typical day progress, I find my audio level to be incresignly too loud (ear fatigue?), so given my monitor output stays the same I would tend to lower everything as the clock is ticking forward. Proper metering is an absolut must if you want material that's consistent across the board.

Now, I wrote this fully expecting to be flamed down, so those few with platinum coated ears can fully have a go at it, I'm ready.

And congrat, Torben, on your new baby, I'm sure it will be a success.

hehe, that's the 2nd msg I was actually referring to I get it when I open the plugin and close it even though Spectra has never been installed on this WinXP install.

This leaves me with a real dillema however: I was planning to stump up for Ozone next time I had a serious project to master. That was mainly because I wanted the MegaBitMax dither.. but I told myself that getting a good limiter thrown in helped to justify the price.

If I buy MPL-1 now (as I'm sorely tempted to) how the hell am I going to justify spending over $200 for just a dither plug?

I assume the dither in MPL-1 doens't compete..? <runs off to test>

I use the universal audio precision limiter on all my projects would the MPL-1 Mastering Precision Limiter be as good or even better ?

If it is as good or better i'd like to puchase it as this would free up my UAD-1 to make room for other plugins.

As a fan of both Kjaerhus Audio's and iZotope's work, I'd say that it's a mistake to look at Ozone only for its dither. There are a lot of other things in that plug-in (should be called a plug-in "suite") that justify the price - but - if that's not part of your consideration and you're on a budget, then you could go with the MPL-1 with a perfectly clear (pun) conscience. As important as various types of dither *can be* to a mix, there are many other factors that have a more significant impact on the sound. And as usual, Torben has all four corners nailed down with this plug. Nice one!

Sure, but I already have better EQ options (ie: linear phase, or dynamic), multi-band compression when I need it (not often), good reverbs etc. The only bits of Ozone that I don't already have well covered are the limiter and the dither.. and if I buy MPL-1 it will be just the dither.

I just tested the MPL-1 dither anyway. It works perfectly well.. but, like every other dither I have tested so far it doesn't have that warm soft <hush> sound that MegaBitMax manages.

Torben, I don't suppose you have some amazing Ozone-killing dither algo up your sleave for the next plug..?
