My first impressions of Luna Free:
Things I like...
It's stable, at least no crashes so far!
The trackless approach is very interesting! In my opinion it's the most important concept in Luna, because it makes Luna stand out from other hosts. If Jo manage to get the workflow right here he got a big selling point! Semiquaver has already mentioned some possible improvments in an other thread.
Things that could be improved...
(sorry if I sound negative, I know it's a new baby!)
It's cumbersome to zoom in/out with the mouse-wheel since it isn't centered around the mouse-pointer.
The bar-numbers are a bit tiny, aren't they? Or is it just my resolution...
When I select several notes I get a pop-up every time! A default choice would be convenient.
If the part pop-up remembered it's previous state it you wouldn't have to open a node every time.
You move effects by holding down Ctrl. I think it would be better if this was reserved for copying effects. If adding effects was done by right-clicking, left-clicking could be used for moving effects instead.
The start marker in the pianoroll is cool. Why not add an end marker as well?
I think it would be better if changing the start of a part worked as changing the end. If I want to move the parts notes relative to the timeline I can always grab the center of the part instead. Tracktion got this right imo.

You can move effects? Darn, I must read the manual at some point..! Agree on swapping the buttons - I'd have found it just by a normal drag'n'drop, then.midi-man wrote:You move effects by holding down Ctrl. Speaking of effects, how to bypass one without removing it ?

There is an end marker; you have to right-click on the time bar at the top to set it. I think it should probably appear by default...midi-man wrote:My first impressions of Luna Free:

re: zooming, I sometimes find it a little cumbersome to zoom out to get the bigger picture, esp. when working with the editor window. It only seems to zoom out as far as it actualy contains events, right?

i hear that. numerical values are very helpful in some instances. but luna is new, im sure all that stuff will be added to the unlimited version, and some will trickle down to the free version.
marco... are you using the 'globe' icon in the middle of the two scroll bars? its a zoom out to 100% button. very handy.
what id like is if you highlight something in the track window and then zoom, for the focus to remain the selected object, or if theres no object selected, then just the cursor position. or, how about a miniature of the arrangement in its entirity above the actual arrangement view, so you can click anywhere in its miniature and have the actual disply follow accordingly, like wavelab?

...mmmmm......very streamlined host...but still in early stages....
- it does not display the VST gui yet?(maybe it does)......yes it does - press EDIT
- not getting any sound out though whith cm303 so far.
- I like the idea of be able to seperate the tracks window whith the mixing desk window.
- and like the way you can open the track up for midi editing.
- Can you add a wave file, cannot see it so far..
- yes, if you go to HELP and click Read Documentation, that might help
- yes, its in its early stages, need more work on the graphics side overall to make it more user freindly, so far....?
..mmmmmm.....yes.... first impressions

Besides Semiquaver's suggestions, are there any other workflow improvements you would suggest?midi-man wrote:My first impressions of Luna Free:

No problem, the app may be a new baby, but i'm not, so shootThings that could be improved...
(sorry if I sound negative, I know it's a new baby!)
Ok, will be improved. It's cumbersome to zoom in/out with the mouse-wheel since it isn't centered around the mouse-pointer.
What resolution are you working on?The bar-numbers are a bit tiny, aren't they? Or is it just my resolution...
Note that you can press the first character of a choice as a shortcut! When I select several notes I get a pop-up every time! A default choice would be convenient.
True.If the part pop-up remembered it's previous state it you wouldn't have to open a node every time.
But also note that in the average application you also have to select each submenu again.
Anyway, that's surely not a reason not to improve this (at the contrary i would say
Added on the whishlist for some future version.
Imho, having to right-click to insert an effect would not be intuitive. You move effects by holding down Ctrl. I think it would be better if this was reserved for copying effects. If adding effects was done by right-clicking, left-clicking could be used for moving effects instead.
The first thing a newbie would try on an empty slot is a leftclick.
The "move slot order" functionality is advanced functionality, so it's ok if it's under a modifier key, imo. What do you think?
I see what you mean. But that's done with the start marker in the sequence editor. Mmm, don't want to create confusion. I have to think about this more...I think it would be better if changing the start of a part worked as changing the end. If I want to move the parts notes relative to the timeline I can always grab the center of the part instead. Tracktion got this right imo.
