LUNA vs M3?

hi
i think i may have been labouring under a misconception: ie, Luna was going to be the next Muzys 3...
having tried the L-free beta, i am now wondering about that.
can someone clarify for me what the intended direction of this project is? I understand it was a pre-release, so does that mean that more features are on the way?
The reason i ask is, C-Muzys is a world ahead of Luna, feature and flexibility wise; (alas, i was too late to buy M3, by only a day or so, so i won't attempt to compare it to that)
and now the hard part...
i hate to bring this up, but if i was a current CM customer, and found this to be the new heart of the CM studio, i would be really surprised, and probably a little confused. I would stick to the old one. And of course, that's fine. I am not saying it's a bad thing, or that this should be taken negatively.
I am only mentioning it because i clearly misunderstood what Luna was meant to be.
or have i?
is it just 'early days'?
or is this it?

Muzys = dead.
LUNA Free, C-Music, Luna Unlimited = new, completely unrelated to Muzys (except the author is the same); same base product with different features sets.
The main drive right now, I think, is that Computer Music magazine needs a replacement/upgrade for Computer Muzys -- significantly for OSX, which is currently not supported by CMStudio's sequencer! The replacement needs to be simple, easy to use and fun for newcomers to computer music making. That's LUNA's primary goal.
Quite sensibly, that appears to be Jo's main driver for initial development (I expect there's wad of cash up front, if CM are playing fair).
Longer term (i.e. to keep a revenue stream going - CM won't be paying an ongoing fee, I imagine), Jo will need to keep developing LUNA into a product that fits a wider audience. There will possibly come a point, as with Computer Muzys, where CM mag get bug fixes and the occasional feature upgrade while the flagship product gets significant enhancements.
And it's definitely early days. The first executable code was only available in December/January and the product is still considered pre-release. Computer Music mag, of course, work to publishing timescales - write n-thousand words and it's job done - rather than software development timescales - where the product actually has to be useful

R.I.P., Muzys.
it was among the best ever; i hope that whoever it was that is hoarding the code for no f**king reason suffers a horribly brutal shaving accident.
So. I guess that's it. I will stop hoping.
good luck, jo. I hope you find success with Luna.
cheers all.
bye

LUNA is a 100% new application.
Maybe sharing some same philosofies.
No, LUNA pre-release is almost LUNA release, feature-wise.having tried the L-free beta, i am now wondering about that.
can someone clarify for me what the intended direction of this project is? I understand it was a pre-release, so does that mean that more features are on the way?
It's about some final bug fixes and workflow tunings.
As pljones said right: the main drive is to make a basic and easy-to-use sequencer/host, but with a very useful feature set.
Is that so?The reason i ask is, C-Muzys is a world ahead of Luna, feature and flexibility wise
Which CMuzys features are you really missing in CMusic?
(i know there are differences between CMuzys and CMusic here and there, don't want to play dumb man, but want to hear your analysis)
And why not break this open: What's your top 5 of Muzys 3 features that you're missing in LUNA?
Advantages of CMusic towards CMuzys:and now the hard part...
i hate to bring this up, but if i was a current CM customer, and found this to be the new heart of the CM studio, i would be really surprised, and probably a little confused. I would stick to the old one.
-> Audio file playback and recording
-> OSX compatible
-> Up to 8 VSTIs, all can be multitimbral
-> Up to 8 MIDI inputs and outputs
-> ...
That's not nothing, right?
LUNA is a brand new application at the start of its lifeis it just 'early days'?
or is this it?
Simple and easy.

-no musynth
-no playroom
-tragically short menus; ie: missing all the sequence functions, and some other things
and one of the main let-downs for me is the lack of sample player / mapper. that means one has to use a VSTi for everything that's not an audio track.
In muzys and Cmuzys there was that wicked built in sampler; you could set up drum kits, or nice multisampled synth stuff; I think that is going to be a big missing piece for some people. It certainly is for me. The seamless integration of a sampler right in the structure of a DAW is totally Brilliant, and something that (aside from trackers
) only FL and Muzys had. And i liked muzys' implementation much better.
Look, this is not meant to be a criticism of Luna, and it is starting to sound that way.
As i said, i wish you every success.
This was more about clarifying for myself once and for all what Luna is about, because for a long time now i have held out some hope that M3 would return in some form.
Now that i know for sure that Luna is not going to be anything like it, it's cool. I will move on, and wish you the best.

Well... I'll second that
I still use Muzys 3 but since I can't go with OS9 anymore I use Classic (sic!) There are MANY problems with audio and midi latency but still... I find it very usefull.
What I liked about Muzys was also integrated sample player with brilliant markers and multi split-up. It was amazing to load few samples in a pool and try them out with just a keybord and few touches in Muzynth and Wavelabo. Ideas for a track always appeard in no time!!!
Muzynth or even earlier players with multisample, pool and Wavelabo with more features. Thats what I miss... would be cool if its all on Luna wishlist!
But I can't say I'm not happy seeing that Luna is into hard developement now and will support it best I can.

yeah i loved the sample player, even the one in Muzys 1.0 still felt better than loading all those VSTi for every little thing. I would just go with the flow and end up with songs where the lead sound was a whinnying horse sample or something without all the confusng clatter and bang that a bunch of VSTi see m to make
It's a vibe hard to describe actually...
But I also realize that it's a somewhat esoteric way of working ,so it might not be on top of the list
Someone suggested a Top Five Feature Request hit list, was it Jo himself?
Maybe if we plug it a little the sample thingy will end up there
Marco

i cannot speak of Muzys in past time as i still use it quite a lot despite all idiosyncracies.
mostly for how loop composer behaves and how easy it is to get some looping phrase going on with different length parts, odd signatures polyrhytms and stuff
and how easy is to build a song from that.
Haven't really found anything that could replace it for MIDI and sketching compositions.
And of course beatslicer/sampler is way cool too
