Do people realize that the dongle protection code eats their CPU? I read somewhere that the cubase dongle code was like 50% of the code in cubase or something which ate like tons of CPU. What a waste, and as a paying Cubase customer it was enough to make me switch away from cubase to something else not dongled (T2)...

Don't these bloodsucking companies understand that when users move away from their product they lose money that they could have had from devout user staying loyal and upgrading year after year after year?

Idiots..
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of dongles, and that may be true; but keep in mind that was written by people who crack software and has never been proven. It could have simply been retribution to Steinberg for making a protection system that was so hard to crack!

But I would be happiest in a dongle-less world too.

Even if it isn't 100% true, the fact is there are CPU cycles being wasted communcating with the dongle. The same is true of any dongle unfortunately and that is the nature of the dongle beast.

Yeah, I don't really get why it has to constantly check? It should be: authorise, go AWAY. It also forces you to use USB ports you may not want to use...anyway, don't want to go there again. I'm not crazy about them, but I got used to them, and need to live with them to use certain crucial favourites. The good news: I can fly to my brother's studio in Ottawa, bring my dongle and use them there. Theoretically. If I don't lose it.

C'mon, there are a billion threads you can go post in if you want to bitch about dongles. This thread is about FreeAmpSE. The guy put in a lot of work on it and people are digging it so far. How about you let him have his moment in the sun without turning his thread into a crap flinging fest?

I said I didn't want to go into it, but thanks for keeping it on track.

I've only just joined this thread, and I can't tell from thumbing through it: have people been trying out and discussing the 1.5 beta version?

:D Yeah, and it's all good news, too.

OK: good. I just got to try a copy of it last night, and unless I'm totally insane, this is not only 100x better than his first version, but I was hearing some of the very best clean guitar tones I've ever heard from an amp sim!!! This thing is off the hook! I don't know if it just happens to really like Mexican Strats or what, but, WOW.

I think this will put some fear into the hearts of the big boys (if they ever hear about it). I suddenly don't feel so bad about not owning Guitar Rig/Amplitube/etc.

 Thanks! I don't want to even go the route of FreeAmpSE beats product X (there are enough of them in this world), Do I want it to be the best? Yes, anyone with pride in what they shoud always want that for there baby :) To me thats life live and learn (the important part is to learn) The largest reason for the "Free" in FreAmpSE is for the people who could never afford the X product. Can't say there is no part of it in response to copy protection of late, If it wern't for there CP I might of just bought there product X and been happy? Now I'm started and won't stop for the pride of it, and also the fun :D

BTW I'll never give up on the Flanger, the amp is built per-se by ear and I just haven't heard the right one YET?

Peace

Way cool. Well, hope it gets released fairly soon, then. :hyper: 100x better would be 'some better,' as they say round these parts...

I'm now feeling quite happy I didn't plunk down big bucks for iZotope Trash. Maybe I won't need it at all, if I'm cunning about which other effects I use in production (assuming of course, I ever do any... )

Well, my comments are just my first impressions (which are v. good) and should be taken with a grain o' salt. I didn't get into the more driven sounds, and my initial impression of those was that the clean sounds were better, but I need to sit with it more a good while and get to know it. But I just started peeling off presets right away; I got, like, 10 great chorused rhythym sounds already! :D

That being said, I'm about to go try this and the Amplitube 2 demo in the Nuendo room here at work... (Not that this is a this v.s. that thing...) :scared:

Is it still possible to get hold of the 1.5 beta? Would appreciate, since I kinda digged 1.1 and the new version has been getting pretty positive feedback here.

TIP: in V1.5 the "Contour" control has a drastic effect on the Equalizer adjustments... ;-)
