I've asked about this before, and am not sure why I find this so complicated; so now that I've installed 1.5, I would like to really simplify things:
If space on my computer is not an issue, what is the fastest and most complete method to back-up everything I need (everything I use, have changed etc.) on Receptor ~ to my computer.
I would rather copy everything, than have to only consider the plug-ins I use.
That being said, at this point I know of at least a dozen plug-ins on my Receptor that I'll never use...
Can I delete them permanently?
Often, when I'm trying to back up a plug-in folder, I get a message saying that I don't have permission to do so...
Then, most of the time, I find that it contains a few plug-ins I've purchased, and others that I haven't.
I take my Receptor on the road often, and would like to confidently and quickly be able to back-up...

Search the forum to find the address of oGG's site and read his FAQ on how to clone a drive.

oGG is not GG although he does have a few strings to his bow, and he's pretty jazzy too.

This will sound kind of lame, but I'm on a Mac, and don't understand the code stuff, like the 'dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdc' that oGG talks about.
If I've got tons of space on one of my hard-drives for backing-up, couldn't I just copy most of my receptor over?

If you don't understand that command-line code, then don't bother. If you want to backup your Receptor, this is the only way to do it. Copying the content of C to another drive won't backup the system, and it's the system which is the important bit to backup, not the plugs that you can download again from Plugorama.

I've asked myself the same question.
As for the code stuff, my reply might have been abrupt, but if you don't understand what you're doing, then it's best not to do it.
The info given by oGG is the set of Linunx commands to perform cloning a drive, in this case, from the main one to another attached to the secondary IDE slot on the motherboard. It means:
dd (disk duplication) input files from disk on IDE A, output files on disk IDE B.
There are plenty of HOWTO manuals on Linux commands on the net.

JayVee, if you don't mind spending some money on backing up your drives have a look at some professional disk back up software. Most will clone, archive, and handle drive partitions. I recommend http://www.partition-manager.com/. It understands just about every partition and allows you to copy an entire disk. Worked a treat for me. You can also look at their backup and exact image software.
