And I agree with Solafide, what DK+ needs is more quality samplesets.. :)
acoustic or electronic or?

for the upgrade I will post more later

This is exactly as I see DK+. If I want real drums, I usually go to other synths or soundfonts.

But if this is the case, why aren't there any new electronic kits for DK+ ? All the extra sets are from real instruments.

I'm also interested in more kits like these, and if the work has already been done setting them up for DK+, I don't see the point of taking them out of sale.

What should I do?
looks like things are going in the following direction:

1) there will be a Set One LE (a ten pads kit) included in the DK+ upgrade,

2) full Set One will stay on sale,

3) who bought Set One before the upgrade will get the DK+ upgrade for free

what you think?

all the extra sets are two sets so far, <grin>
one electronic in in the make,

anwyay, yes honestly we had that ambiguity, many users asked for acoustic sets, prolly DK+ is good for both audiences, <winks>

I'm still unclear about exactly what's gonna happen with upgrades and so on, but I don't actually care. DK+ is an excellent piece of software and Luigi treats his customers right. We're gonna come out all right on this. You gotta support that.

I also feel that Luigi shouldn't take down the Funk set. Maybe sell if for a reduced price to people who get the upgrade, assuming that the upgrade doesn't include the full set. He may not have made much money off of it so far, but I could see it being one of those slow but steady sellers as the product's life span lengthens.

Take care,

GreyLion

I much appreciate your words GreyLion, thanks

for me it's a clear and loud 'YES'. DK+ is just perfect for that - what a fantastic drum-sampler it indeed is - easy to use, feature-ladden, light on the cpu and having a big user-library (but of course I'd have a few feature-requests/suggestions for improvements ;-)) :-D 8)

But if I need electronic drums I usually either use Drumatic or Attack. ;-)

:?

hm - what are you using to load the soundfonts? What other 'synths' are you using?

The problem with soundfonts and e.g. SFZ is that you can't influence the sound (or not much) - things like panning-control, multi-out, etc. are crucial for me for mixing acoustic drums/percussion.

Hence DK+ is imo an almost perfect choice for it.

BTW none of the free acoustic kit on that page is good to you? just curious
Personally I'm not really into the vintqage thing, so I'm definitely interested in any accustic offerings you put out.

As to the free acoustic kits, I've tried some of them, but none of them impressed my like set one. Honestly I never saw myself ever using dk+ for more than putting together a drum pattern to set the "mood" of a song in place of a click track. Then the ethno set came along. Suddenly I found myself using this occassionally for clients - and they were very impressed.

Now with set one I have started some work on a personal project. Normally I would put some tracks down and get a friend of mine to come in and play drums, or hire a studio drummer. To my ears theese samples are good enough to stay in the song.

I am really looking forward to the new version of dk+.

Spot on! I have tried several drum VSTis but nothing compares to DK+. I've even stopped using my hardware drum machines. And I use DK+ for acoustic drums.

Here's a thought, if it becomes too difficult to sell the Funk Equipment sets on Wusik, how about negotiating with Funk Equipment for them to offer DK+ format kits through their site.

Yeah, but drum synths won't give you some of those classic drum machine sounds - especially those drum machines which are sample-based.

For soundfonts I use either sfz or DS864 (from Project-5). As you say, you can't tweak individual sounds, but with acoustic kits I usually just need to tune some of the hits.

Other synths I use for drum sounds are Velocity (also from Project-5) and Wusikstation (it has quite a few decent drum kits - especially in the HQ Drums and Drumillenium soundsets). I just got Dimension Pro and it also has some decent acoustic kits. Smartloops offers a few good kits in sfz format.

DK+ is probably the one I use the most, but it really needs more kits - both electric and acoustic. However, there are quite a few free acoustic kits out there (nskit7, ruff ryder, tchakapoum, etc...), plus these new Funk kits. On the other hand, there are practically no extra electric kits for DK+.

Have you checked out the demos for the upcoming Ambient Drums for dk+?

then main problem with all the acoustic kits I know is that they're based on a fundamental misconception (Liqih read carefully, you might learn something :hihi:):

for the perceived volume of acoustic instruments there are two main factors:

the db which they produce and their main frequency. - Cymbals are above everything else frequency-wise. Look at a drumset. The cymbals are relatively small. The kick-drums are huge instruments while the high-hat is relatively small. Nonetheless the cymbals are what you always hear. Even if the amps are cranked up at eleven. There's still the cymbals. This however is to a major part due to their frequency-content and not so much due to their real loudness (measured in db).

Look at an orchestra. The single tiny triangle is in the back. The +10 violins are in the front.

If you now record these metallic percussion instruments and then normalize them and play them back together with a likewise normalized kick-drum etc. the cymbals are suddenly way louder than in the 'real world'. They are WAY too loud. They . I can't stand it, I can't use it. It gives me pain. It hurts my feelings. :hihi:
