Hmm
Hi Urs
maybe I missed something, but is there a release date for Zebra2 yet?
Loving it.. The most powerful one beside Absynth..
Cheers

And I find them to compliment each other rather well... of course as stated above, YOUR opinion may vary.pdxindy wrote:I think Zebra2 way outclasses Absynth... Opinions vary of course

Heh. If I knew the release date, I'd certainly tell you.
Part of my decision *not* to work for marketing heros is, I don't wanna meet anybody elses deadlines. I interpret the positive feedback so that the preview is already quite good. So I have enough time to do some experiments, do some optimizations and implement some stuff that all are quite beyond my original plans.
The drawback of this way of working is, I usually know the release date about 3-4 hours before it's due. (And even then I miscalculate the actual point of time, because something always happens when I try to upload or when I try to send hundreds of notification emails)
I wished I had the patience to finish a product before actually telling anyone. I could then prepare everything, go on holiday for a week and when I come back I just hit a button and it's out...
Cheers,
Urs

Urs, I think your devoted following totally understands your point and would have it no other way. Still, you might be able to tell us "hopefully sometime in July" or something like that and know we wouldn't fault you for a second should you say "decided to hold off to implement uber-cool brainwave interface" or even just "Bill got me again" should VC.net surface a new bug. We'd even celebrate with "finished and on vacation. Will release on return"!

Hehe. Sorry, but last time I was sure that it's only two weeks away was six weeks ago. At the moment I'm sure again that it's only two weeks away. Now that I think about it, I've been sure that it's only two weeks away ever since I started the project. I guess this must be called fortnight syndrome?
However, I have been especially sure for quite some time that it would be finished last December, and I managed to get a preview version out. I have the same confidence now that it's gonna be finished before the association football world championships, which coincidentally start in a fortnight. If my feelings have any statistically significant relevance, there should be at least *something* out by that date.
Cheers,
Urs

hi everybody hi urs,
I'd like to step in and give my POV, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I like Zebra 1.x very very much and look forward to z2 even more, but will in the meantime certainly not use any previews or betas. I started doing so, but then... I need to keep my setup as stable as possible. Stable not so much in terms of bugs and crashes but concerning the needs for downloading, updating, registering, reading "what's new" texts and "what's to come" texts, worrying about time limitations and stuff. (BTW, no offense but I think that in the case of Zebra 2, the time span of announcements, teasers and anticipation has been longer menawhile than with any other software update I know of, hasn't it?)
Anyway, no problem at all, I've been working without Z2 for so many years now...

My problem is that I have upgraded to a MacBook Pro, and now must wait for the final of Z2 so that I can really get back to using it. Unfortunately the Preview/Beta is missing an important bit of functionality for me.....

Hey Uli,
It's gonna change soonishly, there was a lot of stuff cooking in the background here which has panned out quite well so far. It just took time... Which I think will justify the delay in the long run and add some things that you won't expect from a one man show (well, if one can call u-he a one man show anymore, that is). I'll elaborate more on that when it's due.
However, I don't see why one wouldn't use Z2 preview inproduction as it is. Havn't heard about crashes or instabilities and I don't think there'll be a compatibility problem with the final version.
Later,
Urs
Well, that's probably true.hellleutel wrote:(BTW, no offense but I think that in the case of Zebra 2, the time span of announcements, teasers and anticipation has been longer menawhile than with any other software update I know of, hasn't it?)

What do you mean exactly? I guess it must be the occasional zipper noise on some waveforms...? - That was a bug due to a structural change necessary for SSE2 optimization. It's fixed already and will be available soonishly as well... the surprisingly early transition to Intel processors was one of the main obstacles within the last months btw... I had to rewrite a lot of code to get cpu usage competitive to PowerPCs or older PIVs with higher clock rates than Core Duo processors...marzzz wrote:My problem is that I have upgraded to a MacBook Pro, and now must wait for the final of Z2 so that I can really get back to using it. There might have been a lot of delay in the development of Zebra 2 but Urs is right, the development is well worth waiting for, besides, the current version (as of 140306, registered) is indeed rock solid and hasn't crashed on me so far.
