Hi there.
I've purchased Charlie, but am confused about the message on the website:
Installers for many of these are available for download on Plugorama. Those marked with a * will be released soon.
Must I, or should I wait for installers?
A few Musers seem to have installed it via the 'unsupported' method

Hi JayVee,
I think I remember a conversation with Muse Tech Support saying that the upcoming Receptorized Charlie release had a few bug fixes that users don't normally run into.
I have had Charlie installed unsupported for over a year, and haven't had any problems. It sounds wonderfull.
Regards,
Kevin L.

Hi JV,
Yes - sort-of. I had to create a few XML files.
See my post here:

I outline the procedure for ultra-focus, and confirmed that the same thing worked for Charlie.

So, just exactly where do I put this (copied & slightly changed from your earlier post) stuff:
2.) create a 'Charlie-custom-info.xml' file. Give it the following contents:
------ This line is not part of the file ----
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<vst-plugin-info version="1.1">
<vst-plugin-name>Ultimate Sound Bank Charlie</vst-plugin-name>
<vst-plugin-flags>
<effEditOpen-returns-zero>1</effEditOpen-returns-zero>
</vst-plugin-flags>
</vst-plugin-info>
Does it look right?
Is each line supposed to be a folder?
I'm confused...

Hi JV,
Yes I believe that is correct. This is one single XML file (text file), and it needs to go along with your other Charlie files.
The Charlie-custom-info.xml file should be placed in the unsupported folder, along with the Charlie.dat and Charlie.dll file. After you do this, you should be able to go to the 'unsupported' tab, and hit the button "Load Unsupported". This should bring up the authorization dialog, and that's it.
NOTE
(I've probably made the assumption that you have Charlie installed on a PC somewhere, and are simply copying the .dll and .dat file from the PC's VST folder. I have not tried to copy files 'uninstalled' (ie directly from the CD), since some manufacturers decrypt data during installation).
If you still have troubles, you can try to PM me. One of the muse guys might be able to help too.

Hey Kevin,
When you say 'This is one single XML file (text file)' does it look exactly like what I copied? (3 messages earlier)
Or would it be one continuous file?
i.e.
<?xml version="1.0"?><vst-plugin-info version="1.1"><vst-plugin-name>Ultimate Sound BankCharlie</vst-plugin-name><vst-plugin-flags><effEditOpen-returns-zero>1</effEditOpen-returns-zero></vst-plugin-flags></vst-plugin-info>
Anyone from Muse can step in here ~ anytime.
This is the stuff that scares me

Hi JV
(Don't be too scared! javascript:emoticon(':)')
The difference between those two XML descriptions is that your last one does not contain linebreaks - so the answer is: IT SHOULDN'T MATTER. (I myself like the linebreaks, and that is what appeared in my file). All the other characters are what is important. And I believe that is correct.
By the way, this was the original method which Muse gave to install Spectrasonics plugins (based on USBs vsti).
If something goes wrong in installation, what will happen is that the setup screen will say something like "1 installation failed", and you may see an XML file show up in the unsupported folder. This should not be anything that would affect your MUSE OS or other plugs, it would just waste disk space until you cleaned up the files.
If you still have some hesitancy, PM me. I can email you my exact XML file. In the worst case, I'll give you my phone number and talk you through it. Rest assured, this install will be well worth it!

Kevin L.
