I am not sure about the difference since i use sonar4 homestudio wich is built on the sonar4 core.
but it seems like it is something strange with your setup since i don't have any of the issues you mentioned except the first time i installed it.
A reinstall of sonar fixed my problems.

sample depth 16 bits
latency 768
i do have the latest driver
channels analog output and input set at ON
s/pdif off
SONAR4 settings
I/O buffer size (kB) 128
enable read caching and enable write caching OFF
driver mode ASIO
dithering Pow-r 3
use multiprocessing engine ON
share drivers with other programs OFF
that's about it....
just thinking, when I export my song, is the format RIFF Wave the best ???

if you want to export to wave that is fine. Im curious as to how you have yer channels routed- for instance, you should route all channels to eventually end up going through yer master out. That will give you a better picture of how the wave file will sound. So make sure that each track is routed to the master and none are routed to the soundcards outs(only the master track should). If you have a mix of yer outputs, then the sound you hear in the project space is not what it will sound like mixed down.
Further, it sounds like you are experiencing clipping from what you described with the freeze and final output. in playback, sonar will softclip yer audio if you overload each track. so pay close attention to yer track levels and mix volume. If you have to back every track down by 10-15 db then that is ok. when you track the audio its good to have it as loud as possible without clipping, but then during mixing you would back the levels down so that yer master out doesnt clip.

Also I cant remember if sonar prefers a HT processor to still be looked at as a single processor(meaning turn off dual proc support and see if that improves things)
you may want to consider the S5 update, I know I could never go back to 4...

this makes a lot of sense......
let me make sure I fully understand you stupid pig (that sounds weird, anyway)
in the audio track settings.......
routed to the master = output A or B
routed to the soundcard = output M-Audio USB ASIO Analog
is that it ?
if that's it, then you just figured out my problem....
all my audio tracks have M-AUDIO as an OUTPUT
So I guess I'll try to put them all in output A, right ?
and as far as the FREEZING clipping thing, once again , you are absolutely right.
this is going to be a LONGGG day of FIXING numerous songs........
Now, can you just confirm ?
THANKS A LOT
I love you

What bit depth is your sound card set to?Rb Floyd wrote:sample depth 16 bits
While we're at it... what other dithering options do you have and can you make your buffer size a bit smaller?
{Oh... I use broadcast waves}

my soundcard is also set at 16 bits.......
DITHERING OPTIONS in SONAR: none, rectangular, Pow-r 1, Pow-r 2 and Pow-r 3.....
it's set at pow-r 3
I don't even know what that does.........
it was about time I found this place !!!

768msecs of latency!?! I'm surprised you can play back anything. You need to get your latency as low as possible. Too much latency can be worse than too low.Rb Floyd wrote:latency 768

I have Producer 3 and my drivers aren't new... they look a little different. {I don't have an audiophile either} I'd fiddle with the dither and see which one sounds best.Rb Floyd wrote:my soundcard is also set at 16 bits.......

You might crank things up to 24 bit as well. You'll definitely get better sound {slightly larger files} 16 bit is nasty. :} 24 bit gives you pretty accurate renders.
I'm no expert as far as setting up a card goes {my own are the result of trial and error} but your latency seems a bit high to me as do your buffer settings. I'd go through all of that and make sure everything works together. I've never had the problems you're describing. I know Sonar can render audio accurately.
If no one here can help you might ask on Cakewalk's forums. It's a great piece of software... you should be getting the best from it.

My mixing latency is 10.7 and my latency settings for the DMA buffer size on the ASIO panel are 512. {Though it should probably be lower... 512 is comfortable.}j_T wrote:I guess with 768 he means the buffer size. That should be around 15 ms latency.

Ever considered FL studio?
I worked with Cake 6/7/8/9 and Sonar 1/2 ...I have Sonar LE (4) right now... but I don't use it that much.
Since I switched to FL studio many years ago I never had to look back...and as for music notation I use finale (sonar notation doesn't fill my expectations)
