Actually outdoor recordings are rather difficult.runagate wrote:Lol let's go to a park and we can get samples of you wailing on me with the gong
we'll call it "runagate beaten like a gong"
Samples of gong and man wailing like a boiled badger.
I don't mind bussing over to Minneapolis to get whacked with an overgrown cymbal.
We would have to record you screaming like a boiled badger someplace indoors.
Other than that, it sounds like a plan

Why, monkey feces, of course.
I'm gonna take a quick offal-tossing trip down to Grand Old Day (I'm 6 blocks north atm) then I'll come back for my beating.

Well your hardest-hit sample doesn't produce the famous big explosive type sound you find in some music, and one of the most famous is the mortal combat theme song which uses the big gong sound I'm talking about. I do have an example if you want me to go through samples I already have. It's always nice to have alternative samples, though.herodotus wrote:??Architeuthis wrote:Herodotus! raise the volume on your sampler, but I agree, Herodotus, you need to hit that bitch HARD! You OWN that gong! Don't let it show you up!Architeuthis wrote:Well your hardest-hit sample doesn't produce the famous big explosive type sound you find in some music, and one of the most famous is the mortal combat theme song which uses the big gong sound I'm talking about. Actually, I hit the gong as hard as you could without knocking the stand over (In fact, it almost did go over at one point).G-Ro124 wrote:raise the volume on your sampler, but I agree, Herodotus, you need to hit that bitch HARD! No, the deal is that the 'mortal kombat' gong is a much bigger gong. Like, say,40 inches or even larger.
Also, different gongs, like different cymbals, have different tonal characteristics.

Great article. I'm looking forward to your gong project (which I'm pretty sure I'll be able to afford without any stretch) as much as I'd like Kong Audio's ChineeKong percussion collection (which'll stay on the wishlist for a few months yet, I'm guessing)herodotus wrote:

Gong trivia/ramblings: who remembers Ray Cooper, ace UK percussionist, and his giant gong? E.g., in the Secret Policeman's Ball jam (IIRC)? And didn't The Cult tour with one humungous six-foot diameter monstrosity they used once per set? Saw them -- I was a bit pickled, so not sure on details -- in Houston, around '86 or so...
