after everything else, who likes Live 5?

When Live 6 is released (expect a full announcement by the end of this month ) it will be interesting to see if LIve fully conquers in the DAW stakes of course.

Any word on proposed new features, enhancements, etc? Even just rumours? I've been out of the loop the last few months, but like I said earlier in the thread, I'm close to buying Live if a few things are worked out.

Latency is not an issue since I have an RME Multiface II and a decent computer (2003 Carillon AC1 P4 2.4 GHz & 1 GB RAM). I can get down to 1.5 ms sans problem. So, it is not a latency/performance issue while recording. I think it is my lack of understanding how to get my guitar (audio) tracks to work as part of my whole set - with BFD and sampler/synths tracks. I like Live for midi much more than for audio since I have trouble with audio in general in Live. I knopw live was designed as an audio app first but it was not untill it could run midi did I find Live was any use for me.

Multicore / dual core processor support is confirmed.

Judging by the efficiency and business pattern Ableton have established we should be looking at an announcement this month, public beta testing over July and an August launch. To some extent that is guess work though, because all they have officially said is that the launch itself will be in Q3 - i.e. by September at the latest.

In terms of rumours, I would not be suprised to see video support, possibly a new instrument and a handful of effects... perhaps we should have a seperate thread for Live 6 rumours

i can't wait...

even thought there are things I wish Live could better, like better editing tools, etc.. I'm still very loyal to it (and to EnergyXT ) and I have high hopes that it will be a super fast and complete DAW in t e future without hindering it's live capabilities...

well have you tried recording in the arrangement view? That's more like a linear approach.

I think you're getting problems from the quantization setting you have set up. Remember, in Live quantization works as a sort of pre filter with clip firing. Set the record quantization to to none.

The best thing about Live is the way you can just slosh audio around and record the output of any track or the whole mix into a new file. Throw in some live controller twiddling and it's as much an instrument as a host. There's also some very cool things you can do with combinations of follow actions and clip envelopes I don't think you could replicate in any other host. If they can get CPU efficiency closer to the other daws and fine tune some of the workflow issues I'm not sure what another host could do to tempt me away from Live.

Add in the realtime audio engine that keeps playing through so many different tasks. I don't know about the PC, but on the Mac CPU efficiency is fine in comparison to other hosts (besides dual processor issues). Session view, follow actions and clip envelopes and the realtime playing make it unique. Nothing else I have seen can match it in this regard. I am going to do a trial with some friends where we are going to make the soundtrack for an experimental video piece while the video is playing in realtime. No other host could do this.

I actually like the midi editing just fine. Simpler and Impulse could be better but it's brilliant that you can just grab clips from the session view and drop them into impulse or simpler slots. If you've seen the thread I recently started about my disappointments with software samplers I should point out here that I can get closer to the sample/mangle/resample workflow I want with Live than I can with any other software.

I was going to mention this in the other thread. Some people are saying in this thread that Live is not so good for more serious production, but I think it is quite capable and it is also unparalleled for live, spontaneous music creation.
