Hi all,

I was wondering which program (or group of programs) would be the best solution for turning analog synths into sample banks. I would like to be able to make sf2, nki, and others for sharing puposes. I have checked out Samplit, which is cool but does not have any capabilities for crossfade looping. Sample Robot looks cool and Extreme Sample Converter seems awesome. Mac or PC.

I am beggining a larger project for sampling a variety of analog synths and could use a push in the right direction. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for reading.

maybe Vienna?

Vienna like VSL? I can't find anything about an auto-sampler there.

Samplit by cdxtract.com is good but slightly buggy (getting less so with each new minor version)... It's almost perfect for what you want. The crossfade thing is a bummer though. I think DirectWave supports cross fade, but unfortunately it's only export to DWP (it's own proprietary format). I've spoken to the author of Extreme Sample Converter asking him to implement DWP as a from source for his converter once argu releases the spec, he said he would look into it.

Dunno what else to tell ya. How do the NI guys make their NKI's ? Is there a tool to do it? Maybe ask on NI forums?

I think he means vienna as in the soundfont editor

Samplerobot is terrific IMHO and I am glad I have it!

Does it basically take you from start to finish? I am not concerned with something that is super simple, I can learn the software. I just want something that can deliver the goods. Samplit does not do that because of the absence of a crossfade loop.

Samplit makes nki's. I assume I could also bring a sf2 or fxp and convert in Kontakt (I'm installing right now).

Thanks to all for the responses. More opinions would be awesome. I just want the best software or combination of software. When this project gets going I will definitely post a link here for the downloads.

err doesnt kontakt make nki?

yeah. That was my point. I'm not very concerned with output to nki's because I will have Kontakt as soon as I can get the bleeding thing authorized.

Samplerobot does crossfade looping and a whole bunch of other things. I have been using it mostly for sampling older and some newer MIDI synths and exporting them as Reason NNXT files and tweaking them there and then convert to use with my Motif ES or Kontakt 2 format.Generally I am quite pleased with the results I get using Samplerobot with my old and new keyboards.Best thing to do IMHO is to check Samplerobots web site and e-mail them so you can get more detailed and better answers to your questions and they have always been very helpful with any questions I have about Samplerobot.Hope this helps!

Thanks ahutnick. I'll try that out. Hopefully I will have some vintage gear sampled soon and be able to share them through my website.

You could also have a look at my upcoming Samplematic, new BETA demo with automatic looping and SFZ export will be released today/tomorrow.

hi

As you've said Mac or PC :
for Mac, specially the exs24mkII (but many soft samplers read and translate its format) the Redmatica suite is the best : check at their site.

no involvment in Redmatica
just a happy customer of EXSmanager and, what you're (maybe) looking for, Autosampler

I have and use Extreme Sample Converter V2 (it's now V3), and it's an excellent program. I had some suggestions and the authors implemented them perfectly. It has a great loop editor; the best I've seen. But it wasn't automatic (it may be now though).

Samplematic looks like a perfect fit, though, so if I were you I'd check that out first. (I'm going to give it a try myself. I currently do this partly by hand and with some programs I wrote to help me sample my Rhodes, which isn't MIDI.)

Speaking about hard to soft converters-samplers, I was wondering if we can access the raw data (ROM) sample loops of any given hardware synthesizer. I mean, I have a Roland XP-30 and a Korg O1R/W and I need to make some sample libraries (.wav) that will contain just the loop of every original sample. Is there a way to do this? I'm not talking about using the synth's DACs but about a way to import the loops in the pc and convert them to .wav, sf2 etc (I'm thinking of a software that has a hardware part hard-wired to the synths pcb...) Pretty provoking imho :o

There are some very nice synth emulations (CS-80, FM7, Pro-53 etc). Korg has already released the Legacy Collection (Wavestation & M1) which I happen to have and its brilliant! Is there any similar soft synth for the Korg O1 and the Roland JV series?
