Yes, any loaded VST plug takes cpu.
It depends on the VSTI wether it takes much cpu in "standby" time, i.e. when not playing any notes.

I remember someone requesting that if more than 1 part is selected, then un/muting should work for all selected parts.
Well, that is the case.
But make sure you right-click (osx: control-click) the composition background, not a part.
Both context menus have a "Un/Mute" option, but the part context menu is for that part only, the composition context menu is for all (selected) parts.
