As for Cubase's ACID support and tempo changes, well, it's kind of like SONAR but not as ACID-like. Basically, you import an ACID-ized loop, and it gets turned into a REX-style loop, that will, of course, change with the project tempo. You can't do the ACID thing where you grab the edge of the loop and it repeats automatically.

Tempo changes are handled Pretty straigh-forwardly: You draw in tempo points and meter changes in the Tempo graph and any time-stretched material will follow along. It's pretty full-featured in the tempo zone, I have want for nothing.

Tracktion:

No aftertouch support (big bummer for me)

Cannot record midi from vsti synth as audio in realtime (big bummer for me)

No easy to use browser with drag-n-drop midi/audio clips

Automation cannot be locked to a clip so moving clips once there is automation is a PITA

Piano Roll navigation frankly sucks. Double click a midi clip and it opens up inline, but most of the time the clip is off the screen requiring scrolling, and the midi notes also do not center so they need to be scrolled and/or zoomed

I really like the overall GUI concept of Tracktion, racks, audio clip handling, and more, but the above problems and overall weak midi handling has caused me to stop using Tracktion. It is a promising program, but the jury is still out on whether Mackie will do it justice. As a company they are not very communicative/responsive and I realized I was waiting for a new version to address the issues I was finding increasingly frustrating so I moved on for now. The next major upgrade will be the first under Mackie and it should show a lot about the new coders and the Mackie vision for the application.

Live:

I wish all 3rd party plug-ins could be included in device groups
remove the 128 parameter limit for vst automation
piano roll editing could be more powerful

I am pretty happy with Live. It is a creative and inviting playground. Easy to use, and has some great features such as Live Clips, Device Groups, and of course the realtime audio playback and session view. There are improvements I would like to see, but there are no big impediments that I have found in 6 months of use. It is really quite fun.

In Sonar :
1). Docking like ext.
2). COMPLETE linking of tracks. That is, if i link track A to track B, and i insert an effect in Track A, it should be inserted in track B as well. I know, you could use Bussing, but this would be cool too.

3). CC Mapping - This is almost impossible to work with in Sonar. Sometimes, it doesnt show any automable parameters AT ALL. And there's no easy CC mapping ala Energy-XT style.

Ext :
1). Markers.
2). Time signature
3). CPU meter in percentage
4). When i drag and drop a midi clip from guru, it shouldnt add a thousand tracks. Just one midi track with everything contained within it.
5). rendering should work even if the VST lies outside the sequencer COMP.
And what i'd really like with both of them :
1). To be as CPU-effecient as Reason 2.5
2). To not crash thrice a week (again, like Reason).

- Nothing that annoys me constantly. I miss the snappiness of Tracktion 1 though it's better after some PCI latency tweaks. Automation not lockable to clips, strange ( ) timestretching are some (minor for me) issues too.

Nothing bad, really. I can get my work done infinitely faster than I used to. Is it perfect? I don't know. I don't really need it to be, I just need it to work for me. Why does it work better than other hosts I've tried? That's a much easier question to answer. Its paradigm was instantly familiar the first time I started it and it allowed me to leverage all my hardware experience without having to learn how to do literally anything in it. The developer is focussed on the things that are important to me - quality and simplicity. i.e. Its not a geek gadget for noodling around in, its a straightforward, yet extremely flexible platform for being both creative and productive.
