LOVE the sounds, some issues...

First of all, I loved the sounds and vintage feel of the demo, this would be a nice bread & butter machine to take for live gigs with my prog rock band, and something I would consider purchasing right away, however, I did run into at least two snags that made it unuseable for me at present(could be because of the demo):
- "Master" volume was not controllable from my sequencer or midi controller, I was able to set midi learn to CC#7, but I lost the mixing balances of each patch for the three sound sources as doing that sets all three levels to zero or equal amounts when you move a slider, what would be a nice is a master volume control that keeps the relative mixer volumes intact, and that responded to volume messages without doing learn. 99% of my VSTs work that way and I need that as I go live using chainer and a midi volume pedal with my VSTs...
- Apparently there is no velocity response ?? Another must have for recording and realistic playback...
Those were the only two things I had issues with, but unfortunately both are required features for the VSTs I use...
Love the interface, sure looks, sounds, and feels like a vintage keyboard !!!

The two things you are after are both already there.
1) to Adjust master volume, you use the 'Out Gain' knob in the 'Master Controls' section of the interface- this can be easily midilearned (like all EVE parameters) and functions exactly as you are asking for.
2) There are 4 places to set velocity response- first, each layer (A,B,C) has a dial next to the ADSR envelope called 'vel sens'- adjust according to taste and the requirements of the performance. Then also, EVE 2 introduced the 'vel sens' dial in the 'Master Controls' section which adjusts the velocity sensitivity curve to better suit the requirements of your playing style.
Hope that helps.
Also, as you are a prog rocker, you must check out the Mellotronix add-on library after you buy EVE 2- great stuff indeed.

Many thanks Azure and thanks pw for the accurate reply,
velocity response should indeed work, otherwise it's a bug, <grin>
about master volume "that responded to volume messages without doing learn", this is not possible so far, you must teach to 'Out Gain' knob CC#7,
anyway this is then saved until you explicitely forget it
anwyay I can easily add CC#7 fixed to master volume
if you need

Thanks everyone for the great replies, I think I missed the "Master" gain, I did a midi learn on the three individual volume sliders and that kills the mix balance on the patches, my first impression using this with a sequencer caught me by surprise when I had the volume at about 64 and it played loud !
Will go back to the drawing board, if I set the master gain to CC#7(volume), will it care from what port that message is sent ?? My impression was that it only responded to the message from the port it received the midi signal ??
Thanks for the info, will continue testing :->

I got the master volume to learn CC7, how do I save this state so when I close my VST host and bring back Eve, I still have that midi learn set ?? Is that feature disabled in the demo ??

yes, in the full version that's automatically saved in the registry,AzureCrystal wrote:I got the master volume to learn CC7, how do I save this state so when I close my VST host and bring back Eve, I still have that midi learn set ?? Is that feature disabled in the demo ??
does velocity works for you?
thanks

Excellent !liqih wrote:yes, in the full version that's automatically saved in the registry,
Yes it does, it might have been the volume problem that threw me off, but I double checked and the patches were all velocity sensitive so far, my baddoes velocity works for you?
Thanks for the great support, that makes a difference of night and day !!
Do you also get more waveforms than the ones in the demo when you register(like the MS20 saw, Oberheim, etc...) ?? I'm sure yes, but just checking...

I know what the issue with Eve and volume is now, most of the patches do respond to velocity, but START much too loud to play soft passages, I double checked and no matter what I set each individual velocity setting to, the lowest velocity sample is too loud to play material for a soundtrack for instance... I tried using it on a small film I am scoring and could not get it to play low volumes at all, I can make it play LOUDER than normal, but even if I barely touch the keys I get a MID/50% velocity playback....
Can't use it if I can only play "forte"...
Can anyone help ? I love the instrument, but I confirmed my fears today when I tried to use it for soft passages in this film...
For example, I played the same exact passage with Mr Ray(another vst), and it responded as I expected, played the same exact passage, same velocity, same keyboard in Eve, sounds like I'm pounding at the keys at about 97/100 velocity with any patch, I need something to respond to velocities in the 20-64 range......

Here is the problem; the waves below show EVE's response to my soft playing this passage, second wave is Mr. Ray's response, as you can see it is lower where I played softer, not EVE ??
1st Wave = Eve, 2nd Wave = Mr. Ray :

1st Wave = Eve, 2nd Wave = Mr. Ray :

about the velocity, did you already adjusted both sensivity
(the knobs per layer A B C) and the curve, the vel sens
knob in the MASTER CONTROLS section?
try tuning this one all left, if this doesn't help I will take care to fix the code,
many thanks

Yes I tried all four velocity sensitivity knobs with little change, but IMHO, piano and electric piano patches should be multi-velocity sensitive by default, on other VSTs they are. I can hear a slight difference if I really pound on the keys, but nothing happens below notes with velocities lower than say 65-70 ??liqih wrote:about the velocity, did you already adjusted both sensivity(the knobs per layer A B C) and the curve, the vel sens knob in the MASTER CONTROLS section?

Just load up Mr. Ray or any other piano VST, play soft, you get soft, not so currently on Eve pianos... Maybe the samples could be missing a velocity layer ?

thanks StephenR, good news: indeed the velo sens should be improved for piano playing, just retested again and I will release an update shortly,
looks we have few piano players among our betatesters, <grin>

I give you my promise, you fix that, I will make a nice demo for you and turn around and purchase your WONDERFUL Eve ! To me, it feels and looks like my good old vintage instruments, can't wait to use it on my recordings

I just ran across this too and I see its been discussed already. I thought I was doing something wrong! I have spent more time with the synths and making odd sounds with EVE 2. I should really explore the conventional sounds a little more than I have.
