Hi all,

just wanna let you know that I'll be single handed for a few days. So my typing is even slower than it used to be... and I guess I'll only answer really important emails.

Professional advice: Don't try to catch a falling glas of beer. Especially not in the night, when you've got to wait several hours to get a surgery, while the red juice keeps pouring at unbelievable rates :x

(maybe a secondary advice: Don't get engaged with a girl that is so gorgeous that you keep smashing things for no apparent reason... (no, Gregory, I don't mean you - that was another sort of accident))

I'm fine, it just hurts a bit and my new modern-frankenstein fingers are covered by white fabric.

On the good side of things, I can now watch the soccer championships without getting a bad conscience ;)

Later,

;) Urs

Ouch :(

Take a mini-vacation; you're deserving of one :)

Just back from the day doctor. He says it looks pretty good. Nothing's stiff, just one tip might stay numb for a while. So, not too serious, just a week of right-hand-only exercises ;)

Thanks, God, for Ibuprofen, whoever you are!

no shit. I remember when you were in worse shape - that was lame for me to just hear about, I couldn't imagine how bad it was for you

how have you adjusted? been a long time now. I was so stoked to hear you weren't giving up on music or painting.

Haha and so stoked that you made a nice comment about the first track i ever uploaded to KVR, in response to your tragedy

cheers to the wounded

Congratulations and get well! <--(these are completely unrelated wishes)

when my wife was still working in the mad anxiety of ad agencies a designer at the last place was remodeling his kitchen and managed to drive a wood chisel through most of his wrist. he had quite a contraption on his hand for quite a while with rubber bands looped through holes in his fingernails to keep some tension stretching the healing tendons.
so it could be much worse.
take it easy urs, you've given us enough that you can work half time through the world cup

Reminds me of a friend who smashed a beerglass into a wall when he was kind of drunk. Dunno if you've ever seen National Lampoons European Vacation but there's this scene with a guy on a bicycle that gets run over. He points the way and a fountain of blood rushes out of his hand.

Anyway, he claimed he hurt himself while doing the dishes and didn't have to go to work for a week or two ;)

Dudes, we're coders and keyboard players. Our hands are one of our most valuable assets. However there is a position where your hands are protected from danger.

Learn from the master and your hands will not be in danger ever again.

I am one-handed for a month myself after surgery on my right wrist. It is quite amazing how limiting it is just having one working hand. For instance, I need help to cut my meat during dinner, to button my trousers etc. Quite a humbling experience.

Congrats on the engagement!

By the way, I enjoyed your take on the developers life on plasq.

Well, good on you for switching to wine after your problems with the beer, Urs :hihi:

Seriously, feel better and enjoy a rest! Even more seriously, congratulations on your engagement :D

It'll never work properly again...I had to re-learn everything: to draw, to type, to sign my own name. But I got used to the limitations. I think I paint better now than ever before...or at least I enjoy it more! Still can't play keys like I used to, but that's okay. I have made different music because of it, focusing instead on my arrangements.

Though without the ability to flip people off with both hands, I feel my vocabulary has been considerably compromised these days...

Can't complain. But I did feel my knees go weak when I read Urs' post.

I'm glad it isn't too bad, Urs! Take a rest, and practice making obscene gestures, you'll appreciate the ability to do so more now! You'll be better in no time!
