As the title says - I would like a multiband parametric EQ, or a 31-band stereo, even a 10-band would help, but inexpensive and sounds good...

Matt Craig's spot-on emulation of the Ensoniq Paris EQ. Warm and wonderful and free.

I'll give it a try - damn, it was hard to find, he seems to have disappeared. Found a link at the Paris website:

I love Kjaerhus Audio's GeQ7, sounds amazing, almost as good as my Uad Pultec. Pretty inexpensive as well. Also try his free classic stuff, there is an eq in there as well that's fairly decent. here's the link http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/

I'm using their Classic EQ, but I've now located several 10 and 18-band free eqs as well, from somerwhere on this site (EQ10, EQ18 and EQ3a were downloaded from a link from here I can't find at the moment.) They work well, and are free.
