How's the multitrack recording in Acid now? Do you use it much?

I've done up to five layered audio and MIDI/VSTi tracks without a problem (over a bed of about 20 separate loop tracks). Depending on your RAM, you can probably get a good deal higher than that. One of the new features is that you don't need a separate track for each damned loop, which drove me cuckoo before (well, not quite: the folderization feature helped, and it's still included).

Like I said earlier, it's the slow load that stops me reaching for it for everything. I don't have 100% confidence in it yet, but it's certainly growing.

I jumped from AP4 to AP6, and am extremely happy. About my only complaint is the Media Manager is a resource hog, and I wish you could avoid installing it, and I wish it defaulted to not running. If I had a 2 GB RAM system rather than 1 GB, though, it'd be extremely useful.

Everything else... suhweeeeet.

There's a workaround to stop it from even attempting to install, they really should give you the choice though, but oh well.

I'll reinstall it and edit this post to tell you how (this is from the web installer though, but probably works the same from the disc.)

1. install as normal (usually to C:\Program Files\Sony Setup\ACID Pro 6.0)

2. once the unpacking wizard finishes it'll disappear and the windows installer box will appear..hit cancel (if you miss cancelling at that point, don't despair, you have another chance to cancel when it says it's installing media manager.)

3. got to C:\Program Files\Sony Setup\ACID Pro 6.0 and delete the 'mediamgr' folder

4. still in C:\Program Files\Sony Setup\ACID Pro 6.0 folder, double click on 'ACIDPRO60_enu.msi' and install.

5. when you start acid up, you will be notified that media manager failed to intialize, that's not a problem..that's good

just go to preferences and untick both 'save media usage relationships....' and 'enable media manager' then close acid. Now any time you start it up it wont prompt you again.

You can zip up the folder 'Sony Setup' and just install from that whenever you need to reinstall (in that circumstance you can, when reinstalling, just unzip the folder, install as per step 4 and when done delete the sony setup folder thus freeing up disk space too...just don't delete the .zip

) as opposed to running through steps 1-3 again.

This may sound a bit raggedy, so if you have any questions or whatever, feel free to pm me and i'll help as best i can.

I appreciate it, since I'm about to do a clean system reinstall (from the download, so that's all good). I think that, literally, my only complaint about it is that you can't drag-and-drop audio from track to track as easily as you can in Vegas.

You can install the whole Acid setup without cancelling whatever. After the full installation you can under control panel - add/remove software and remove the mediamanager! There is also another utility i can't remember i also removed that one. Than to the same as mentioned above untick the use of the mediamanager in preferences.

I know, but I'd rather not have to deal with installing and uninstalling Media Manager at all. Not to mention that it runs rampant with your MS SQL server. Don't use it, don't want it, want the option not to install it.

I demoed more toroughly version 6.0a (version 6 kept crashing on me every 12 seconds so I couldn't use), my experience is posted here: http://www.crossfade-forums.net/view_to ... forum_id=4

Acid feature set is mighty appealing for scoring work.

But I have been fiddling with it trying to get 3 tracks working for about 2 hours, no luck. It's a mess.

Scenarion:

Load a midi track, set MIDI to auto, load up Tassman, choose a patch, arm and record. Work fine so far.

Load MIDI track 2, set MIDI to auto, load up DR008 with a kit, arm the track... When I play the keyboard, both synth are playing. Ok, no problem, disable MIDI input for track 1...Now both track are silent (track 2 is still to auto mind you). No way, no how can I get playback back on track 2.

Close the program, reopen the project and now work allright (go figure). So I arm track 2, click record...Track 1 is not playing...F**k. Plays fine when I press "play", is silent when I record... Set track 1 MIDI input back to auto, now it plays when I hit "record" with track 2 armed, but everything I play is also played by track 1 synth. so I set track 1 input back to "disabled"... Now I lost both track playback, I get no sound from anywhere... Like I said: F**K!

So I close and reopen the program, still no joy. On a whim, I disable DR008 track and reenable it. Bingo, I now have playback from the keyboard, and playback from track 1 when recording on track 2.

That was easy (yeah right). I'll spare you what I had to go trough to record track 3 (bass), kind of went along the same line but more unnerving because I now had 2 other track that would randomly enable/disable themselves, on top of having my input mixed up (I witnessed a discomforting "feature", having track 1 and 2 MIDI input disabled while track 3 was armed, but I still would get playback from track 1 and complete silence from track 3).

After 2 hours, and having all of 12 bars on 3 tracks recorded and having pulled half the hairs I had left, not mentionning completely forgetting what my musical idea was in the first place, I decided to let it go and uninstalled the thing.

So... I'm back to looking for my ultimate sequencer... An endless journey it turns out to be...

[ctrl+M]in Acid is a killer feature.
Just bounces to a new track the looped & selected region.
I used to use it all the time back in my Acid days.

That's my favorite feature! It makes getting soft synth patterns into audio loops for mangling so easy and quick. With acid pro 5 I was rewiring Reason and Project5 into it. I did the midi in those programs and then bounced loops straight into Acid. Now with ACID 6 i'll be composing the midi directly in ACID using rewire midi to Reason, and I no longer need P5 for vsti's.

acid is looking pretty damn good these days, the only thing i'd like is for them to make the chopper midi note mappable so that i could then sequence the slices more intuitively

Yeah, that would be slick.

I would like freeze, and I would like them to allow aux sends from VSTi busses. It is pretty ridiculous that it doesn't do that.

Does video sync-streaming kill anyone elses' system? I am searching for a sequencer to purchase that will work well for scoring video.
The video playback was causing the whole audio to skip and stutter with only 2 synths loaded! (Sytrus & Chimera).

I have a 2.3Ghz CPU and 2GB Ram and usually can pump a heck of a lot more out of it than this..
