"Came with" and "free" aren't the same thing. Be sure your'e paying for that dongle when purchasing the software.
Try getting a replacement dongle, or find a product which is sold with and without a dongle bundled, and see how much your'e paying.

Warez users are looking for ANY excuse to keep using warez, and dongles are their excuse of the moment.

Getting the software for free is good enough an exuse, dongles or no dongles.

Warez users are generally people who fail to grasp the advantages of buying software, and that has no moral issues with piracy.
They simply won't comprehend WHY you should pay for something you can get for free. This is why no amounts of dongles and registration can convince them to pay 500$ for an audio app.

In the many years I've been coming to this forum I've come to the conclusion that many pirates either download 'warez' because:

(A) They want to sound like XXXXXXXX (enter in popular artist) but dont have the technical skill yet, so they download 'bigger and better' things looking to acheive that sound the easy/lazy way.. it becomes a never ending cycle for them...
OR/AND
(B) They simply do it as a hoarding issue.. just downloading crap because its there, its new, and they can. maybe its boredom???

no amount of dongles in the world is going to stop that..

Apart from breaking the deadlock (13/13), I'll just add that someone's going to be paying for the dongle hardware - either the developer in lost profits or the consumer in price hikes or as a separate fee. They don't magically appear for free. Just like software!

Never bought anything that uses a dongle, and I doubt I ever will. I have two USB ports on my laptop, packed very close together and right between the network and power cables. When I have a MIDI keyboard plugged in they're both occupied, and it's a tight fit.

I also don't use pirated software. I work at a software development company, and people paying for our product puts food on our tables... and yet somebody at work gave me a DVD full of cracked NI stuff when they found out I was a musician. I tossed it.

Bad idea. Dongles are bullshit.

Haven't used dongled software since I bought Logic for pc, waaay back when (v3, I think?).

Yeah, I'm a software developer too. Some of my colleagues use cracked stuff and I just don't understand their attitude. Okay, we're a big corporate - we rarely even see the stuff we write being used and it's only in house -- but still: you're stabbing other developers in the back and that's not cool...

Dongles are just a bad idea period - they are counter productive for musicians, and the only people who benefit from them are the software companies who don't give a shit if it f**ks up your enjoyment of their software or not.

If nothing else, dongles are certainly a convenient means to lose all of your software at one time.

The only thing dongles have done for me is give worries over losing another piece of hardware at a show, it's enough with having to worry over losing cables,pedals,mics and other sh·t, but having to worry about losing your most expesive software can ruin a perfectly nice show.
